John Adolph Ernst III

John A. Ernst III was born in New Jersey on November 13, 1935. He passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 in Cape Coral, Florida. He graduated from Toms River High School and then received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Monmouth College in West Long Branch, NJ.

He was a partner in Ernst, Ernst & Lissenden, a Consulting Engineering firm that specialized in engineering and planning services. He was also a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and a Professional Planner in New Jersey.

He was honorably discharged from the New Jersey Army National Guard.

John was a member of the New Jersey Consulting Engineers Council, New Jersey Municipal Engineering Society & New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

He had a part in multiple organizations including Boy Scouts of America of Toms River, Central Ocean Rotary Club of Toms River, Ocean County Library Commission, Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce, Ocean County YMCA of Toms River and Community Medical Center.

John enjoyed golf and traveling in his free time.

He is survived by his son, John (Cathy) Ernst; daughter, Kathy (Mike) Kohlhepp; daughter-in-law, Helen Ernst; grandchildren: Danielle (Ryan) Padgett , John (fiancé Maggie Allbright) Ernst, Michael Kohlhepp, Jeffrey (Kristina) Kohlhepp, Nathan (Lisa) Ernst, Ronald (Taylor) Ernst; great grandchildren: Conner Padgett, Emma Padgett, Laci Kohlhepp, Savanna Ernst and Vienna Ernst.

John is predeceased by his parents John A. Ernst, Jr. and Marie C. Ernst; his first wife, Linda (Rogers) Ernst, second wife, Joyce (Harris) Ernst and son, James Ernst.

Private burial will be held at a later date.
