

Born in Arecibo, Jose was the son of the late Jose Cruz Fradera and Antonia Rios Rodriguez. He built a long and honorable career in public service, first with the New York Tri-Borough Bridge and Tunnel Authority and later with the Florida Department of Transportation. His dedication to his work and his strong sense of responsibility left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Jose was a man of many passions. He loved to travel and explore new places, sharing his adventures with family and friends. He found great joy in cooking and took pride in preparing delicious meals. An enthusiastic foodie, Jose enjoyed discovering and savoring new flavors wherever he went. He also enjoyed building model airplanes, a pastime that reflected his patience, attention to detail, and love for craftsmanship.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judith; his cherished children, Ana Rodriguez (Raul), Carmen Cruz, Clara Batchelor (Robert), and Noyra Valentin (Doug); his grandchildren, CJ Johnson, Melissa Foster, Luis Valentin, Raul Rodriguez, Amanda Rojas, Casey Rodriguez, and Nikko Rivera; and his great-grandchildren, Jagger Johnson, Auden Valentin, Noah Foster, Dominic Rojas, Cavan Johnson, Ace Foster, and Luca Rojas; and his brother, Gilberto Cruz (Lily).
Jose’s life was marked by quiet strength, a love of family, and an enduring sense of curiosity and joy. He will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle wisdom, and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
