Lorent Anthony Davis was the middle son of five boys born to Samuel and Ethel Davis. He was born on June 20, 1932 on the beautiful island of Jamaica, West Indies. As a young boy growing up in Jamaica, he was an excellent student in school and was always hard working, reliable, kind and loving. As a teenager and young adult, he supported his parents in the running of their farm in St. Mary parish and assisted them in raising his younger brothers. His younger brothers often speak about the profound influence he had on their most formative years.
He was employed at RJR Radio Station in Jamaica where he was well respected by his colleagues and well known to the people of Kingston, Jamaica.
He married the love of his life, Leanora (Joyce) West, in 1965. They enjoyed a wonderful life together in Jamaica and they migrated to Brooklyn, New York, in the late 1960’s to establish a foundation and better life for their family. Through their hard work and dedication, they were able to purchase a home in Brooklyn and brought their three children up from Jamaica in 1973. He worked in retail at the Lord & Taylor flagship store on 5th Avenue for over 30 years. During his long tenure he became known as the go to guy to get things done and he received numerous citations and awards while working there. He retired in 1993 and moved to beautiful Lehigh Acres to live his dreams of planting and gardening.
In Lehigh Acres, he established himself self as a master gardener (farmer) and he and his garden were even featured in the Fort Myers local newspaper. He’s known for growing ackee, mango, avocado, so many other exotic fruit trees. After a long day of gardening, he would often unwind with his friends for drinks and to play dominoes. Dominoes became a big part of the community in Lehigh Acres. It was more than just a game and a way of bringing the community together. He was one of the founding members of the Lehigh Acres Domino Club where he was active for many years.
Lorent was a family man. He was a devoted husband to Leanora and an awesome father to Greta, Horace and Roy. He doted on his grandchildren Georgie, Gemaal, Amir, Kendra, Sophia, Melissa, Karen and Tiffany. He treasured his only surviving brother Raphael Davis, his nephew Ronald Davis Jr. and so many other members of his family and his friends.
Lorent’s thoughtfulness, generosity, patience and infectious smile will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
