It has taken me over a year to be able to do this.  How do you put a lifetime of love into words?  The night before I received the call from dad to tell me there wasn't anything more they could do, I watched the movie "Up" with the kids.  I cried for two hours.  I somehow knew what was coming.  And once I did speak to dad and started making plans to come see you, I began writing down what I wanted to say to you.  I did not want to forget a single thing.  But God had other plans and I did not make it.  So now I have to wait until we meet again to tell you myself.  I can however share with the world what you meant to me and thank you for ALWAYS being there:
• Thank you for sneaking me in to see “Saturday Night Fever” instead of “The Rescuers” with your friend when I was 7 or 8.  Sorry I couldn’t keep the secret when we got home.
• Thank you for making me feel like I was the favorite, even though Johnny and Melanie think they are the favorite too.
• Thank you for dressing me up and giving me a little purse so I would look old enough to visit dad in the ICU when I was 9.
• Thank you for hanging out at Plaza Las Americas when I was 11 so I could meet Menudo in person.
• Thank you for teaching me to speak English when I was 3.
• Thank you for letting me wear heals at age 11.
• Thank you for letting me wear makeup when I was 13.
• Thank you for taking me to the doctor to get birth control pills when I was ready…..and for not crying in front of me.
• Thank you for taking care of Marilyn until she was 5 and Logan until he was 8 months old so I could work.
• Thank you for making me a birthday card with a picture of C. Thomas Howell for my 17th birthday.  I was so sure I was going to marry him………
• Thank you for sending me to NYC for 3 weeks for my 15th birthday.  I saw “Cats” at the Winter Garden Theater.  My first Broadway experience!
• Thank you for letting me paint my room lavender and for making my purple bedding.  I was the envy of at least one friend!
• Thank you for taking me out of school one day during my Senior Year of high school to take me on a clothes shopping spree!
• Thank you for letting me buy one outfit from a boutique instead of five from Sears when I was a teenager.
• Thank you for letting me dress a little like Madonna.
• Thank you for always telling me:  “If you’ve got it, flaunt it!”
• Thank you for sitting down and drinking with me when I told you I wanted to try alcohol and for telling me there is nothing wrong with drinking now and again and to do so responsibly.
• Thank you for planning a surprise birthday party for my 30th.  It was a blast!
• Thank you for driving up all the way from Ft. Myers to Orlando for my 39th birthday.  It was one of the greatest surprises ever!!
• Thank you for drinking Cosmos with me at TGI Friday’s.
• Thank you for being in the delivery room when Marilyn was born so you could experience in a small way what it is like to give birth naturally.
• Thank you for watching “Xanadu” with me over and over and over again even though it was a silly movie.  Music was great though.
• Thank you for showing how to clean a bathroom and a whole house for that matter.
• Thank you for teaching me how to cook some of our Puerto Rican dishes while on the phone.
• Thank you for loving Gary as if he were another son.
• Thank you for loving my children as if they were your own.
• Thank you for loving me for who I am and celebrating me for being me.
• Thank you, for teaching me that life is just too short, to let go of the petty stuff, and to really enjoy every single moment you get to spend with your loved ones.  
The list is endless……….as was your love for all of us.  I will never get over losing you, but I will learn to move on and enjoy my life.  It is the most precious gift we have.  I love you.  I miss you.  I can’t wait to see you.

I am so sad to learn of Lucy's passing. I will never forget her vibrant spirit and enthusiasm for life. She started out as one of my very best Avon customers; then we became friends. We would celebrate our birthdays every year with Kathy Blau, until I moved to Boca Raton and Lucy moved to Ft. Myers. I last visited Lucy when I traveled to Ft. Myers in June of 2008. It was a trek I made annually on the anniversary of my precious Dad's passing into Glory. Lucy proudly showed me around her beautiful new home, promising me I could stay there the next time I came to pay my respects to the Daddy she knew was so dear to me. When I visit his final resting spot at Lee Memorial Park this June, I will pay respects to my dear and precious friend, Lucy, as well. God Speed, my friend. To Lucy's family - I only met her once but was touched by her friendly smile and kindness.  It was clear to me from many conversations with her loving and adoring daughter (in law) Carol, that Lucy was a wonderful mother, a good friend and a very special person.

Siento una inmensa tristeza de solo pensar que Lucy ya no estará más con nosotros. El Señor nedesitaba tenerla en un lugar más cerva de él y su misión fue cumplida. 
Recuerdo cuando la conocí en la boda de Johny y Carolina. Lucy fue una excelente esposa, madre y abuela. Siempre admiré su actitud positiva ante cualquier adversidad. Cómo cuidaba de su amado Johnny, de sus hijos y nietos. Con cuanta alegría contaba de las ocurrencias de sus nietos y lo mucho que disfrutaba estar con ellos. No desperdició un momento de su vida para abrir los brazos a otros y ofrecer una sonrisa. Apesar de su sufrimiento mantuvo una actitud muy positiva hasta el momento de partir.  
Que ejemplo de vida. Ese era el mensaje que el Señor quería traernos a travez de su dolor. Estoy segura que las puertas del cielo no esperaron a que ella pidiera entrar. Ya estaban abiertas. 
A ustedes que hoy quedan aquí en este mundo aprendiendo a vivir sin Lucy, tengan el consuelo de que fueron toda la alegría para ella, y de que su vida en salud o enfermedad fué menos dolorosa por el amor y el cuidado que siempre recibió de ustedes.

I have no words to express my love and gratitude for not only you, but your whole family. The kindness and love you and Uncle John gave our family is something that has not ever been forgotten by any of us. Were it not for you, our lives would be very different, and I can’t be anything but less than eternally grateful for you all. 

Most of the best childhood memories I have are of all of us together for Sunday and holiday dinners, birthday celebrations, and summers at your pool. I remember you always having a kind word and beautiful smile for each of us along with going above and beyond to make us feel at home. I also remember Marisol singing Beauty and the Beast songs with us, Little Johnny teaching us how to play Sonic the Hedgehog on his Sega, and Melanie reading us countless scary stories. Remembering us all watching The Lion King or the making of Thriller and doing the dance together are such precious memories that even with all the years that have passed, I can’t ever watch or hear those things without thinking of you. I remember that the day of my Sweet Sixteen, almost no one came, but you were sure to be there… no matter what, you were always there for our events. And on time, too!—an extraordinary feet for the Gonzalez side of the family! You told me how beautiful I looked and tried to console me when I was upset. I’ll never forget my Uncle John stepping in to do the Father-Daughter dance with me. Thinking of that moment alone brings tears to my eyes. You guys have never let us down, no matter what. You’ve been there for me at my best, and at my worst. You’ve always opened your doors, and accepted not only me, but the rest of my family as if we were your own. 

Your gentle, loving soul is so genuine and inspiring that I can’t fathom the thought of anyone whom after meeting you didn’t want to strive to be a better person. Jessica, Mikey, and I were so unbelievably blessed to spend the last night we were with you, Uncle John, and Abuela Josie. Those are the priceless moments in life that remind us why the world is beautiful, and why family is something to cherish and never take for granted. 

I will miss you so much, but I am so relieved to know that you are no longer in any pain. I know that you are looking over all of us just as you have been all along. I will always love you.

Thank you for being a wonderful person to all who knew you.  You will be greatly missed by all of your family and friends.  I know you will continue to be the sunshine in our eyes each day as we look up.  I know that God has taken you in his arms to relieve your suffering. Our family would like to express our sympathies to you at this most difficult time.  We were so sad and sorry to hear of your loss.  We remember many great times shared at your home and at Nellie and Lou’s home when we would get together.  There was always much laughter, fun, and great times.  Lucy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and human being who cherished her family.   She was a living example of an exceptional mother who we should all strive to be like. 02/24/10 - Aloha!  Margaret and I just found out about Lucy's passing thanks to Eva Franqui's email that we just received today.  We are thousands of miles away in beautiful Hawaii, but we have not forgotten our beloved Laracuente family members that we have had the good fortune to meet.  We are very sorry for the sad loss experienced by Johnny, his immediate and extended family.  We are sorry we cannot be there to show our love and respects.  Lucy's smile and warm engaging personality will be sorely missed.  However, she will be in the good company of my mother, Rose Laracuente, who passed away in 2005.

My beautiful cousin Lucy. It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that I write these words. As we grew up you were always so full of life and so honest with everyone. My pet name for you was "cat eyes". You had the most beautiful eye's just like a cat's eyes.
We had so much fun growing up and so many fond memories of you and Josie. You were so special then and remain so throughout the years. You had such great qualities and yet so humble. You developed into a beautiful young lady. 

You grew up into a wonderful woman and raised a terrific family.You demonstrated so much love for your family and friends that everyone loved you. No one could ever have something bad to say about you. You gave of yourself so much to everyone. The love you and John shared is what many married couples long and dream but few attain it. This has been passed on to your children. Now you are gone from your earthly body but watching us from up above. Your pain and suffering is over.I am truly blessed to have been able to say my good byes and let you know how much I loved you and the great times we had growing up. I will miss my phone calls to you and talking to you but you will live on forever in my heart and in my thoughts. Like you said to me "cuz I will be waiting for your arrival at heaven's gate" You put up a good fight till the very end and now you no longer suffer from any pain
God has called you and now you are with Titi and Tio and all our other loved ones. Oh my darling sister, I cannot believe that you are gone and I will never hear your wonderful soft voice again.  All my life I have always felt you were the perfect example of a happy, content wife and mother, not to mention the best sister and aunt ever.  My three children all loved you for your special caring ways.  I will miss our conversations, your support, your generosity, your unconditional love,  Your kind soft manner made all those around you love you instantly.  Our loss is God's gain as He knew exactly what he wanted when He picked you as his next Angel.  I will always love you sis. To My Beautiful Sister Lucy, I never could have imagined losing you so soon. It is so very difficult to express my deep sorrow and loss. When we lost our mother I drew strength from you, in order to go on. I can only conclude that your pressence was needed else where at this time, for a purpose which only you can fulfill. Your void leaves many of us yearning for your being now and in the future. Your free spirit and wonderful disposition drew many to you, and for all that knew you, they are blessed and so much better for it. You have left a wonderful legacy, your children, grandchildren and John. You will be missed beyond comprehension and thought of warmly and very often. In addition, I lost a friend that understood me at times, better than I did myself. You gave yourself willingly and without condition and who could ask for anything more. 
You have a change of address now where there is peace, joy and happiness with no more pain and cares of the world to bear. Be sure to stand in line and get fitted for your wings because we sure can use a guardian angel, and for me personally I hope I am blessed with you. My faith and hope tells me to look forward to a time when I can expect to see you when I transition over. In the mean time, you will remain forever in my heart, thoughts and prayers and just know that you will be missed having left a void that no one can fill.
