Born on November 24, 1930, in Fort Myers, Florida, she was the daughter of Joseph Gormican and Lucille Villars and grew up in Everglades City. She attended the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa before graduating from the University of Florida in 1951 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, an accomplishment that reflected her dedication and intellect.
Mary lived a long life rooted in family and her love for Christ. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Clarence (C.P.) Rogers, and a source of love for her children and extended family. She was also known as a wonderful cook, often bringing people together around her table, and she took great joy in flowers—especially orchids, which she admired for their beauty and elegance. She also had a deep love of travel and cherished the experiences and memories made along the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Rogers, and her grandson, Paul Rogers.
She is survived by her children: Michael (Nelda) Rogers, Lynn (Ronald) Melvin, and Bill (Carolyn) Rogers; five grandchildren—David (Sara), Daniel (Laura), Katie (Sam), Rex, and Clay; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathleen Goss; Paul’s widow, Katie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Church of the Resurrection in Fort Myers, followed by burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia, Florida.
Mary will be remembered for her love of family, her home-cooked meals, her appreciation for the simple beauty of orchids, and as a lifelong devoted Catholic.
