Phillip was the husband of Eileen McGuire Schomer, father of Kristin Schomer Bentz (Joseph) and
grandfather of Sophia Elizabeth Bentz and Nicole Drzymala-Gostomski (Adam) of Joppa, Maryland. He is
preceded in death by his parents, Mary Catherine Venersky Schomer, and Phillip G. Schomer, Sr. from
Bridgeville, Pa., and his sister Barbara D. Schomer, from Petersburg, West Virginia. Surviving are his
sisters, Pamela Russo (Louis), Roxanne Shute (Gary), from Pittsburgh, Pa, and Wendy Pacific (Frank) from Englewood, Florida. Also survived by 13 nieces and nephews and 7 great- nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Carnegie High School in 1966, Phillip served in the United States Air Force as a
Supply Specialists in the Aero-Space Force, stationed in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. He was awarded an Honorable Discharge in 1970.
After serving in the military, Phillip engaged in the insurance industry working as a licensed agent with a
LUTCF (Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow) designation. He was the Vice-President and working
partner with Three Rivers Financial Services in Pittsburgh, PA and RTI Insurance Services of Florida, in
Southwest Florida.
As a renal transplant recipient, Phillip was an active member of the Organ Transplant Recipients of
Southwest Florida, Inc. support group, as well as an advocate and volunteer with the LifeLink organ
donation awareness organization.
Phillip actively served the Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church as a member of the church council,
participated in the choir and served as a Pastoral Assistant since 2007.
Phillip will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him for his keen sense of humor; his vast
knowledge of history, politics and world events; he was a loyal fan of all Pittsburgh sports, particularly
Duquesne University Basketball (Let’s Go Dukes!); he loved Disco and Doo Wop Music; and he never left
the house without wearing his beautiful smile:)
A Celebration of Life service will be provided at Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Myers on
Saturday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m.
