Robert “Bob” Emmett Minahan, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Ft. Myers, Florida. Bob was born to Helen and Robert Minahan in Green Bay, WI on August 25, 1938. Bob grew up in Green Bay where he excelled in competitive swimming and it was at the pool where he met the love of his life and future wife, Judith (Craig) Minahan. The relationship flourished during his subsequent college years at Notre Dame University and, following college, Bob and Judy married. During that time Bob worked in the insurance and banking industry initially before moving on to his primary career focus in commercial real estate for the greater Green Bay area. Later in his career he scaled back his real estate endeavors, bought a manufacturing business in Fort Myers, and headed south. Bob was an avid boatsman throughout his life enjoying innumerable family boating trips, regular racing regattas, longer sailing trips to Europe and Mexico, and a stint as Commodore of the Fort Myers Yacht Club. In later life, time on the water diminished and Bob found new joy in volunteering his time caring for babies at the Lifeline Family Center. His time nurturing babies was just one manifestation of a kind soul who cared deeply for his family, friends, and humanity as a whole. Bob was also an avid Packer fan who suffered the indignity of a Packer loss to a lesser opponent in the final game of his life. This bump in the road, along with all difficulties in his final weeks, was met with fortitude, never-ending humor, and a passing that was eased by his lifelong devout Catholic faith. Bob is survived by his spouse, Judy; his four children Katherine “Kerry” Hendricks, Robert “Rob” Minahan Jr., Susan “Susie” Blake, and Peter “Pete” Minahan; his grandchildren Erin Devine, Laura Cowley, Jack Ruppelt, Eva Minahan, Chloe Ruppelt, and Ginger Minahan; and great-grandchildren Evan Devine, Theo Cowley, Will Devine, and (Bob’s namesake) Bobby Cowley. Bob is predeceased by his sister Helen “Janey” MacNeil, his brother Michael Minahan, and his great-granddaughter Claire Cowley.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 19th at 1 PM at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord (8121 Cypress Lake Dr., Ft. Myers, FL 33919), followed by a reception at Stillwater Grille (13451 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33919).
In lieu of flowers, Bob would have appreciated a donation to the Harry Chapin Food Bank of SW Florida https://donate.harrychapinfoodbank.org
