Yvonne Elizabeth Huff (nee Yowell) passed peacefully from this world on March 16, 2024. Born to Harry and Mary Josephine Yowell on September 2, 1930, Yvonne grew up in Washington, D.C. On June 9, 1950, she married William T. Huff and together they raised three children in Fairfield, CT. In 1986, William and Yvonne retired to Naples, Florida and later to Shell Point in Fort Myers in 2001.
Married at 19, Yvonne built a home and family with William. Together they raised their three children in an old farmhouse in Fairfield. Her commitment to her family brought her all over the country to spend time with her aging parents, her children and her six grand children (and 16 great-grand children). Her presence brought joy and her penchant for the perfectly thrifted gift was delightful and often hilarious.
In the early 1960’s, Yvonne gave her life to Jesus and was baptized. This began her decades long journey of faith. She was committed to knowing the Bible as well as teaching it to others and was a part of leading many local Bible studies in the Fairfield area. She was a prayer warrior, especially on behalf of her beloved family, and she lived out her faith in her every day life.
Yvonne was a committed friend and loving neighbor to many. She paid attention to those around her and was always available in a time of need. She was also ready and willing to celebrate life’s large and small joys. If there was an event to plan, she would plan it. She was the perfect friend to shop with (if you could keep up with her) and was always up for an adventure.
Yvonne’s home for the last many years has been Shell Point, a place she truly loved and was fastidious about improving. If she saw a way to improve the lives of the people of Shell Point, she would be persistent to move things towards change. She was known as "The First Lady of the Arbor” and genuinely cared for the many kind people who worked there. We know that she was so thankful for them. We, her family, are thankful for them as well and for the care they offered.
We are thankful to know that when Yvonne left the world, she went to the loving arms of her Savior and was reunited with her beloved husband William (dec. 3/22/13). Though there are many who will miss her presence, none more-so than her three children - Gail Stokes, Lynn Lamoreux, and William Huff (Gail Huff), her grandchildren - Bradley Morris (Tiffanie), Michael Stokes, Christopher Stokes (Shannon), Amy Huff, Jennifer Thompson (Micah), and Allison Carden (Josiah) - as well as her 16 great grandchildren who will miss their wonderful G.G.
For those wishing to celebrate Yvonne’s life, a memorial Service will be held June 1, 2024 at 10:00am at the Village Church at Shell Point.
