Dockrey was born on November 2, 1946, in St. James Parish, Montego Bay, Jamaica the fifth child of the late Henry and Mahalia Hanson. He migrated to the United States in 1973 as a migrant worker and became a United States citizen in 1996. He was later employed by Vista Royale as a Construction worker followed by the City of Vero Beach as a Landscaper. He retired from the City of Vero Beach in 2010 after 23 years.
Dockrey was affectionately known to many as “Preacher” or “Doc.” He loved the Lord, he was dedicated, and faithfully served as a Deacon and Grounds Keeper for many years at Macedonia Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Fort Pierce, Florida. He loved to give testimony in church and play his harmonica. Whenever he had the opportunity, he would tell others of the blessings of how far God brought him in his life. Whenever anyone had a need, he would lend a helping hand if he could. His main goal was to make it into the Kingdom of God and he would share the Word of God and encourage others to give their heart to the Lord. “Little Flower’s Never Worry” by the Heritage Singers, “Gaither Vocal Band,” “Through It All,” by Andre Crouch, and “Beaulah Land” were his favorite gospel songs. Dockrey’s favorite hymn was “Great is Thy Faithfulness” because it was his father’s favorite and also reminded him of where God brought him from.
As a family man Dockrey loved his family and was a good provider. He always wanted what was best for them. He was tough but had a warm heart. He was fun-loving and some of his favorite pastimes were playing a good game of Dominoes, watching the movies “The Ten Commandments,” “The Bible,” “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Fred Sanford” and the Jamaican comedy “Oliver” while sitting in his favorite chair eating a bowl of Butter Pecan ice cream.
Dockrey is survived by his wife, Hyacinth Hanson, one sister Sisylyn Hanson-Stephenson, four brothers Sherod, Joseph, Locksley and Everal Hanson all of Jamaica, three sons Maston Hanson of Vero Beach, Florida, Jacob and wife Janay Hanson of Fort Myers, Florida, Joshua and wife Krystal Hanson of Vero Beach, Florida, three daughters Charlene and husband Richard Bailey of Fort Pierce, Florida, Yvette Gadson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Krista and husband Johann Brown of Fort Pierce, Florida, five stepdaughters Angelica Brown of Orlando, Florida, Deanna Brown of Newport, Rhode Island, ToniAnn Lloyd, Melecia and husband Damion Johnson, Felecia Dyce, one stepson Michael and wife Tina Campbell, twenty eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
There’s a land that is fairer than day
And by faith you can see it afar
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
We will miss you. Sleep in Peace until we meet again on that beautiful shore.
