It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Sterlace, a beloved father, grandfather, partner and friend who left us peacefully on April 1, 2025 at the age of 85. Born in 1940, John lived a life rich in experience and character. He proudly served for many years as a Supervisor of the Mechanics Department with the New York City Department of Sanitation, where his commitment and work ethic made him a respected member of his team.
Upon retirement, he embraced the simple joys of life – spending his days on the golf course, playing card Bingo, baking, painting, and soaking in the natural beauty of Florida.
Stubborn yet, endearing, John had a heart as big as his personality. He never hesitated to share his opinions and had a way of making everyone around him laugh with his sharp sense of humor. His charming wit along with his generous spirit earned him admiration and affection of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John is survived by his children, Cathy Page of Tennessee and Marie Sterlace of New York, along with a total of 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren as well as 1 Great Great Grand baby. John is predeceased by his son, John Thomas and his only sister, Lucille. John is also survived by 3 Brothers, Thomas, William (MaryAnn), of Ft. Pierce, and Joseph (Elaine) of Massachusetts, plus many Nieces/Nephews, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
He will be missed more than words can express, but his legacy of love laughter and resilience will live on in the stories we share and the lives that he touched.
Information for his celebration of life is listed on this page.
A gathering of family and friends for John will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 North US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946.
