Leo was born in Louisville, KY and had been a resident of Fort Pierce for 57 years.
Prior to his retirement, Leo was a member of the Iron Workers Union and specialized in metal lathe in the construction industry. He was an avid and very talented tennis player for the last 40 years. He shared his love of tennis with his wife, Nancy and his son, Steve. Leo loved stock car and NASCAR racing, his daughter, Susan lovingly remembers many years of great times with “dad” at the old Fort Pierce race track. Leo loved gardening and his property was always pristine and he had passed on his “green thumb” talents to his three children. For many years he tended his garden in Florida as well as enjoying special time gardening with his daughter, Jeanie at her home in North Carolina.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 66 years, Nancy, spending the last years of his life dedicated to her care and well-being. Leo mentored his grandson, Johnny, from the age of 4 years and inspired Johnny’s great love of trains. They had travelled through the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and spent many wonderful years exploring the mountains together. He enjoyed the visits of his granddaughters, Kelly and Julie, when they would come to share time with him at his homes in both North Carolina and Florida. Leo was so grateful for his great grandchildren, Liam, Kayden, and Addie and had been looking forward to meeting the newest edition to his family, his great grandson, Owen.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, daughters, Susan Jean Miller, Patricia (John) Ogden, son, Steven (Patty Ann) Miller, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service held at 2:30pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce FL.
