Marilyn was born on October 10, 1939, to Graydon and Ethel Baker in Muskegon, MI, later residing in Grand Rapids, MI. Marilyn was the oldest sibling to two brothers, Douglas (deceased) and Claude. Marilyn moved to Miami when she was 21, happily abandoning Michigan winters.
She tackled and excelled at any task set before her. She became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, where she achieved her desire to travel. She met her future husband, James (deceased), on one of these flights. Marilyn and James married on October 3, 1964, and had two children, Sean and Theresa. Together, they ran over 20 successful nursery schools in the Miami area. Marilyn and James moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1979 when they bought a small, rundown trailer park. Over the years, they turned it into a successful RV Resort, the Road Runner Travel Resort.
While James was serving as St. Lucie County commissioner (1984-92), Marilyn thrived at running the resort, during a time when women were not numerous in the business world. She was also on the board of several local organizations: ABWA, TDC, St. Lucie County Historical Association, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She excelled in hospitality, touching the lives of so many, serving people whenever she could.
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Claude Baker (Cindy); one son, Sean Minix (Kathy); one daughter, Theresa Fowler (Mack); ten grandchildren (Mack, Jacob, Sean, Zack, Nate, Riley, Carina, David, Kaleb, and Grady); four step-grandchildren (Don, Kristen, Michael, and Jeffery); two great-grandchildren (Eloise and Evangeline) and multiple nephews and nieces. The family was one of Marilyn’s greatest treasures.
