Nancy Austin Wetherington

Nancy Austin Kelly Wetherington was born on August 6, 1930 in New York. As a teenager she moved to Florida to live with her aunt, where she met her husband, Barney Wetherington at an army social. In 1950 they were married, and they lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL where they raised their family until they moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1970.

Nancy worked at the local library in Fort Pierce, directing young and old to the best books on the shelves. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading to her children and grandchildren, inspiring them to become great readers themselves. As she aged and conversation became more taxing, she always had a book nearby to keep her mind active, especially her Bible.

Nancy loved Jesus more than anything in life, and lived her life to serve Him and share His love with others. She was involved with starting the Ft. Pierce Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was a dedicated volunteer at Mission Possible in Ft. Pierce, which serves orphans in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. In 2005, Barney and Nancy moved to Shiloh Youth Ranch in Sebastian, FL where they helped Pastor Jimmy Hinkle and the teachers there to minister to the boys who attended the school. Shortly after Barney passed away in 2012, Nancy left her home at Shiloh to alternate living with her children, John Wetherington and Martha Hayman. She immensely enjoyed seeing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they visited her frequently. She told them stories about her life as a child, read with them, listened to her great-grandchildren read to her, and enjoyed watching songbirds come and go to the feeders in the backyard.

Nancy passed away on December 2, 2020. She is survived by her 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her kind demeanor and servant’s heart were a treasure here on earth, but she has finished the race well and is receiving her reward in heaven now.
