

Edgewater FL. Mrs. Philomena (Massaro) Scalo, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, May 28,2021, at the home of her son and daughter in law, where she resided for the past year. She was the loving wife to the late John L. Scalo, Sr. for 62 years until his passing in 2009.
Philomena was born on November 8,1925 in Waterbury CT. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Faustina (DiGregorio) Massaro. Her upbringing at a young age focused on the importance of faith and family. Her close and loving bond with her sisters and brothers has been a life-long blessing and have been the foundation to our family.
She married the love of her life, John, in 1947. She was a stay home mom until her youngest daughter went to school. She began training to become a CNA which became a lifelong career for 35 years at Grove Manor Convalescent Home. She loved taking care of her patients and was a dedicated caregiver to many.
After retirement, in 1988 Philomena and John relocated to FL. She was excited to become a first-time homeowner. All were welcome and invited to visit anytime! Everyone was treated like family!
Philomena, a devout Catholic, always put God and Family first. She always took the time to cook, bake, and truly found joy in having company over at the drop of a hat. Affectionately known as “Aunty Phil”, she was loved and respected by all who had the honor of knowing her. Her most treasured times were with her children and grandchildren whom she loved and had so many cherished moments with through the years.
“Faith, Hope and Love”, The greatest is love...Philomena’s legacy will live on forever in our hearts.
Philomena is survived by her four children. Frank Scalo, Phyllis D’Alessio and her husband Vincent, John Scalo Jr., and his wife Debbie, all of FL. Mary Sciarretta from CT. She also is survived by four grandchildren. Ann Marie D’Alessio, Jennifer Sarro and her husband Dave, John Scalo 3rd, and his wife Jen, and Joseph Sciarretta Jr. and his wife Karen. She also leaves five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Philomena leaves her beloved brothers and sister, Fr. Michael Massaro C.S.C. Helen Massaro from FL. Anthony Massaro and his wife Antoinette from CT. She was predeceased by her loving sister Mary Damato, her brother Pasquale Massaro, and her son in law Joseph Sciarretta, Sr.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, FL on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11:30 am. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the mass from 10:30 – 11:30 am. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, FL immediately following the Mass.
