
McKINNON - Its is with much sadness that the family of Dorothy McKinnon (Wood) announces her passing on April 26, 2013, at Echo Lodge, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. She was 94 years of age. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Ted Wood in 1970, and by her second husband, John McKinnon in 1985, as well as her youngest son, Shelley Wood in 1986. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Jessie Patterson, and Win Kelly and her only brother, Ken Steele, as well as brothers-in-law, Cecil Patterson, Alex Kelly and Syd Andrews. She leaves to mourn her passing, her three sons; Larry (Dianne) Wood of Regina, Doug (Margo) Wood of Kleefeld, Manitoba, and James (Yvonne) Wood of Calmar . Alberta; her sister, Margaret Andrews of Edmonton, Alberta, a daughter-in-law, Delores Deutsch of Edmonton, Alberta: her sister-in-law Mary Steele of Coventry, England; as well as ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dorothy was born and raised in the Cupar area, the youngest child and daughter of Andrew and Margaret Steele. at the age of twenty she married Ted Wood of Cupar and together they took over the Wood family farm Southeast of Cupar, which they farmed until Ted's passing in January, 1970. They raised a family of four boys. While in her late forties, she returned to school to receive her certificate as a Certified Nurse's Aide, later using this education to work in the Cupar Hospital and the Fort Qu'Appelle Health Clinic , where she established a reputation as a "good nurse". In 1974, she married John McKinnon from the Ituna district. and they retired to a new house in Fort Qu'Appelle, where they enjoyed eleven happy years until John's passing in January , 1985. Her later years were spent in various retirement/nursing homes in Fort Qu'Appelle, i.e Hudson Manor, Harrison House and lastly, Echo Lodge. As per Dorothy's wishes , there will be no funeral service. Cremation with a private graveside service at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
