Richard Anthony "Tony" DuBois ( Little Wolf ) born August 13th,1963 Winnipeg, MB died December 4th, 2021 Calgary, AB. The eldest son of Richard DuBois and Mary-Ellen Thomas [Maxine Nanowin], Tony was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his Mother Mary-Ellen and his brother Christopher DuBois he leaves to mourn his untimely passing his siblings, Alison, Simone, Lloyd (Karen), Clifford and Mélodie (Sterling) and his daughter Dakota Prince whom he loved so very much and was always proud of. He always told everyone how beautiful and smart his little girl is and how proud that she was modelling internationally.
Tony would spend hours wandering about the valley hills and sailing old gas tanks on the dugout with his siblings and loved being outdoors. As a young boy he wanted to play hockey and he found a way to buy himself a hockey stick—he lifted the money out of mom’s purse. His hockey player dreams never left for good; as a teen he would go roller skating at the Great Skate and was a very skilled rollerskater. His sisters fondly remember when he’d skate really fast towards them and then he’d suddenly turn his feet to one side so that his skate wheels easily grazed their roller skates. Down they’d go in a screaming heap.
For most of his adult life Tony worked in the seismic industry. He loved working seismic and could easily carry up to 6 rolls of line whereas most workers could manage 2. He worked seismic up until about 5 years ago when he said "well I think it's time to hang it up". Tony was a talented artist and he loved to talk about the time when he was painting along the Bow River in Calgary and Robert Bateman walked up and shared some painting tips with him and added to one of his paintings.
Our brother worked as a security guard at many clubs over the years and could easily diffuse any situation most often by calling out "settle down" in his loud booming voice. Or using his long arms to separate whoever was involved in shenanigans.
Tony was a talented self-taught musician that could play by ear Often found busking with his guitar in Calgary or playing the piano in Stephen Street mall where people would stop by and compliment him on how well he played as he was an exceptionally talented pianist.
He had many friends in Calgary and Vancouver that affectionately knew him as "Big Rick". Richard spent many years living in Calgary and he would spend a lot of time at Alpha house and was known and loved by many. A giant of a man with a gentle heart who looked out for others, that most people referred to as the downtrodden, Tony knew only as fellow human beings that deserved love and kindness.
He would often spend time with his nephews over the years and take them under his wing and share life advice. Which was often filled with wit, humor and a tad of tough love. He always tried his best to share what he could and through our memories he shall live on.
He was a fan of Bob Seger and as he walked through his life and as he journeys on now as your favorite singer said dear brother Big Rick “Like A Rock” as you “Turn the Page’ on your journey and we will hear you singing “Roll Me Away” as you travel along, the lone wolf you have always been. We will love you forever journey well you will be missed.
