On Thursday, August 8, 2013 Shirley Akapew died at the age of 77 years. She was predeceased by her husband Byrce Bellegarde and one son Barry Akapew. Shirley is survived by her children: Donna (Joseph), Clayton (Debbie), Faron (Colleen), Clarence (Cheryle), Dianne (Darrell), Richard (Shelly), Denise, Delia (Jonas), Wes (Ashley) and Jerry; adopted children: Kevin Kurek and Arlene Starr; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters; special friends Flora Doniot and Betty Lou Skogen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wake will be held in the Okanese Learning Center, Okanese First Nation on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service in the Okanese Learning Center on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Stanford McKay officiating. Interment in the Starr Blanket Cemetery, Starr Blanket First nation.
