It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Allan Rogers. He passed away peacefully at the age of 89.
He was survived by his children Kim (Gary), Corey (Marilyn), Tedi (Eric), grandchildren Cody, Ashley, Tyson and Hayley, great grandchildren Nolan, Mason, Lukas, Damon, Oliver, Bentley and his sisters Grace, Glennis and Flora.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Lorna of 52 years, his brothers Franklin and Arnold and his sister Madeleine and parents Dryden and Thelma.
Allan was the second youngest of seven children. He was raised on a farm in Bindloss, Alberta and went to High school in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
He started working at the young age of 15 at the docks in Vancouver followed by 8 years in the oilfield in Dawson Creek, first as a truck driver then as a surveyor.
Allan then returned to the home farm where he farmed for 8 years. He supplemented his farming with driving school bus and opened a garage.
During this time he also helped build the Bindloss Curling Rink and for years he was the ice maker and draw master.
In the mid 1970’s Allan worked in Real estate in Medicine Hat Alberta and continued to farm until it was sold.
He then purchased Roger's Trailer Sales in Medicine Hat. He continued to work in R.V. sales in Lethbridge Alberta, Cranbrook BC and finally as a R.V. Sales Manager in Kelowna BC.
Allan loved Kelowna, this was his home for 34 years. He had many friends and was involved in many activities.
In 1998, Allan retired from the trailer sales business and began driving a Handi-Dart Bus. He drove until he retired in 2006 and was 72 years old.
He always said this was his most favorite job.
Allan loved to dance. He was known to dance at least 4 times a week.
He loved to volunteer and help people. He sold poppies at the mall and sat with the Salvation Army Red Kettles. He donated every year to the food bank.
Allan loved to bake. He baked 92 squares for his 85th birthday and took it to one of his dances. He baked for his Condo coffee group, for friends and for Christmas.
Allan was a number and word puzzle guy. He also loved music. Especially 50 and 60’s country and dance music. He was also an avid TV watcher. His favorites were game shows. Especially Wheel of Fortune.
Allan resided at Aster Gardens in Sherwood Park for the past year. He enjoyed his time there. He met many people and made many new friends both with the staff and the residents.
He was best known for being a gentleman and having a great sense of humor.
Allan will be deeply missed by all those knew him.
A private family interment will take place in Kelowna at a later date.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the University of Alberta Hospital, Unit 3E3 for their incredible care and compassion.
