Bob was predeceased by his Parents William and Margaret Baldwin, brother Fred Baldwin (Anne), in laws Kathleen and Newton Byers, brother in laws Neil (Margaret) Byers, Murray Byers and sister in laws, Willene (Dennis) Kerr and Wilma Gilmer.
Bob was born on April 28, 1932 at the family homestead near Carievale, SK. He attended Empire School from grades 1-10 where he was fondly known as “Little Bobby Baldwin” by his teacher. Throughout his youth he played hockey and ball usually attending these events on his horse or bike. He developed a love for music early on and this continued to be a big part of his life right through until his passing. In 1959 he traveled to Regina, SK and purchased his loving guitar which he referred to as his “Gibson Girl”. He played with numerous people and bands including his accompanist for life, his wife Donna. He farmed until 1970 when the family moved to Weyburn, SK so Bob could attend vocational school where he received his journeyman papers in carpentry. The cabin he built in 1975 provided many fond memories with family and friends. He ran his construction company in Weyburn until 1978 when at this time the family moved to Estevan, SK and they purchased the Swank Motel. Bob continued with his carpentry skills updating the motel as well as other projects. In 1986 the motel was sold and they semi-retired to an acreage north of Estevan, SK. In 1989 Bob and Donna moved out to Vancouver, BC where they managed a senior lodge as well as enjoying the many social/outdoor activities in the area. In 1991 they moved to Onoway, AB where they remained for the next 30 years. Here they were very community minded becoming involved with different organizations many in which Bob could use his carpentry skills to lend a hand. In Onoway the music continued with Bob and Donna being very involved with numerous fiddle contests and jamborees. With his renewed love of fiddling he was proud to play the 100-year-old Cathcart Family fiddle with which he also recorded a CD. During this time, they travelled to many different contests and jamborees throughout Alberta. Bob was a member of the Legion and the Elks along with many other organizations over the years. In 2021 they made the move to Fort Saskatchewan to be closer to family. He remained here until his passing. Bob’s greatest joys in life were his wife of 65 years, his children and grandchildren, whom he shared his love of music with and was always willing to lend a hand with any carpentry project.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Onoway Community Hall, Onoway, AB
