

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 17, at Saint Boniface Church in Ft. Smith. Fr. Walter Nolte will be presiding; concelebrants are Abbot Jerome Kodell of Subiaco Abbey and Fr. Mark Nolte of Nashville, TN. Visitation will be at St. Boniface Church on Thursday, October 16, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM concluding with a vigil service at 6:30 PM. Burial will follow the funeral at Fort Smith National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fentress Funeral Home.
Al was born in Subiaco, Arkansas on December 28, 1927. After graduating from Subiaco Academy in 1946, he served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper.
Al and Catherine A. Nolte (Udouj) married on August 13, 1949.
For 32 years, Al and Catherine were the owners of The White Spot Café on Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith. However, most of his career was devoted to the real estate business where he typically operated behind the scenes. Most notably, in the late 1960s, in working to put together a golf course subdivision, he identified and secured for purchase the land that was a suitable site. He offered the project to his brother-in law, Herman Udouj, who financed the development, and their dreams became a reality which is Fianna Hills.
Anyone, who knew Al, will tell you that his favorite past time was playing golf and playing cards.
Al is survived by his wife and ten children, Carla Wagner, Nick Nolte and his wife Peggy, Libby Nolte, Kathy Baumann and her husband Tim, Bob Nolte and his wife Karen, Mike Nolte, Fr. Mark Nolte, Julie Lewis and her husband Mark, Cari Burgess and her husband Johnny, Fr. Walter Nolte; his 18 grandchildren, Lisken, Caleb, and Sarah Wagner, Maggie and Allie Nolte, Nicole Arnold, Nathan Williams, Sam Berry, Jr., Catherine Teetor, Ben Baumann, Chris and Alex Nolte, Isaac and Gabby Lewis, Madison and Jack Nichols, Ashley and Jarrett Burgess; his eight great-grandchildren, his two brothers, Joe Nolte and Johnny Nolte; his two sisters, Mary Lou Marley and Joan Greenstreet; numerous nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gertrude Nolte; as well as his brother, Walter H. Nolte; his sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Gertie Gramlich; his nieces, Paula Richardson and Cindy Toth; his nephew, David Nolte; his grandson, Jordan Lewis; and his great nephew, Aiden Hooper.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and sons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Subiaco Academy – The Walter H. Nolte Scholarship Fund; St. Boniface Parish, Ft. Smith, AR; St. Bernard Parish, Omaha, NE; or St. Edward Parish, Nashville, TN. The family of Al Nolte wishes to thank the medical teams at the Nashville VA Hospital and Vanderbilt Medical Center, Deborah Baxter, CNA, and Mercy Hospice.
