Ann Louise (Jacobs) Conrath, a lifetime Fort Smith resident, died January 14, 2015 after a brief illness. Coincidentally, she died on her beloved mother’s birthday. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Cynthia and Mark, a wonderful big sister to her brother Patrick, and a loving and caring daughter and caregiver to her aged parents. She was a straight “A” student at St. Anne’s Academy, graduating in 1945.
Ann married the love of her life, Colonel Otto William Conrath and after a brief assignment in El Paso, TX, they returned to Fort Smith where Bill enjoyed a distinguished military career and Ann worked in the typing pool at Fort Chaffee. Once they started a family, Ann became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and together with some of her girlfriends, they formed a sewing club that met monthly for lunch and gossip.
Ann was a devout Catholic and attended St. Boniface, Immaculate Conception and ultimately Christ the King Catholic Church.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Fort Smith National Cemetery Pavilion. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
Ann is survived by a daughter, Cynthina Shanker and family of Seaside Heights, NJ and a son Mark Conrath and family of Tulsa, OK. Also surviving her is a brother, Patrick Jacobs and family of Norman, OK. She leaves behind beloved grandchildren; Jessica, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Ryan, and great grandchildren; Sophia, Emma, and Greyson.
The family would also like to acknowledge Dorene Riley for the care, devotion, and friendship she shared with Ann these last few years.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Christ the King Catholic Church 1920 South Greenwood Avenue Ft. Smith, AR 72901.
