

Dr. Archie Lavern Hewett, 86, passed away October 30, 2015 in Fort Smith. He was born November 13, 1928 in Little Rock, AR to Archie W. Hewett and Ada Theresa (Geyer) Hewett. Archie graduated from Little Rock High School in 1947 and graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1951. He graduated from the University Of Arkansas School Of Medicine in 1955, completed his Urology residency in 1960, and then began his Urology Practice in Fort Smith practicing until his retirement in 2008. Archie was a member of the American Urologic Association, the Arkansas Urologic Society and was a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology. He received the Spirit of the Frontier Award from Mayor Ray Baker and the City of Fort Smith in 1999. He was a member of The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Smith since 1960.
A doting son, husband, father and grandfather, brother and friend, Archie devoted his life as a physician to his profession of urology, respectfully caring for innumerable patients from Fort Smith and surrounding communities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Tammy; his son, Daran, and his sister, Peggy Johnson Murphy. He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Terry Hunton and her husband David of Fort Smith, and Sharyl Hewett of Fort Smith; his son, Dr. Mark Hewett of Rogers, AR; six grandchildren, Daniel, Wesley, Emily, and Elizabeth Hewett, and Tory and John Hunton; and a special devoted friend and caregiver, Chere Davis of Fort Smith.
The family would like to thank his long-time, wonderful caregivers of PRN, Tracy, Ray and Cynthia. Private family service will be Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Woodlawn Mausoleum under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.
