On Sunday, June 21st, 2020, Belinda Katherine Marcotte passed away in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Formerly of West Monroe, Louisiana, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, Belinda relocated with her family in 1994 in the midst of a 40-year career with Beverly Enterprises and Golden Living.

Born November 16, 1956 in Portsmouth Naval Hospital to father D.L. and mother Catherine “Granny” Byrd, Belinda was the youngest of five daughters, known to all as “The Byrd Girls.” “Lark,” as her sisters referred to her, excelled in school, as evidenced by her perpetual presence as the smartest person in any room into which she walked. After graduating in only three years with her bachelor’s degree in accounting, Belinda began her career in 1978 with the company now known as Golden Living. During her professional ascent, she affectionately earned the moniker “The Queen” while holding titles such as Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, Senior Financial Officer, Treasurer, and Executive Vice President. In addition, Belinda served in various leadership roles in international accounting and finance organizations, though she remained eternally humble, explaining to anyone who asked her profession “I’m an accountant.”

As loyal as she was to her work, she was even more so to her family. Dedicated and devoted, Belinda never dared question her own sacrifice for the benefit of her family. Preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Dennis McCue, Belinda is survived by her husband, Lt. Gary L. Marcotte (Ret) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her daughter, Amanda Marcotte of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her sons, Brian Marcotte of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Nathan Marcotte and wife Whitney of Cocoa, Florida, and Nicolas Marcotte and wife Kayla of Hackett, Arkansas; as well as her grandchildren, Katherine “Kay”, Caleigh, Karl, Elle Marcotte, and Garrison. Additionally, Belinda is survived by her “Byrd Girls” sisters, Noel McCue of Chesapeake, Virginia, Ann Preston and husband Denny of Chesapeake, Virginia, Joan Haley and husband Eddie of Senatobia, Mississippi, Pat Fontana and husband Kenny of Monroe, Louisiana; as well as the nieces and nephews for whom she was eternally proud.

Adored and admired in life by all who knew her, Belinda’s family hopes to continue her adoration in the form of support to treat and end ALS; www.webar.alsa.org

Fred and I had the pleasure of working with Belinda during our many years at Beverly Enterprises/Golden Living. We remember Belinda as smart, funny, creative, thoughtful and genuine. She had a quiet, calm demeanor, yet was always goal oriented. Belinda could be counted on to offer thoughtful and insightful guidance and always delivered it in a gentle, helpful way. Belinda was a natural leader that set a positive example and also developed the talent of those around her. We both benefited from knowing and working with Belinda. We also spent time with Belinda and Gary outside of work -- we recall many fun group dinners and parties spent with a couple that clearly adored each other and their children . We will miss Belinda and her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. Our sincere condolences to Gary, the Marcotte children and grandchildren, and the many other members of the Marcotte family. Nic...we are so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. We still remember you and "your girls" at Cody's wedding. He was glad to get to visit with you when he visited the time he was home. And share military experiences with your dad.

When I became a colleague to Belinda in 2006, I was in dire need of help in understanding the financial structure and records of the companies that I was required to defend. I am sure that Belinda had better things to do, but she never hesitated to spend time explaining to me how a very complex system worked. She was a blessed with patience, a fine character, and a willing spirit. To her family members, thanks for lending her to me, and many others who worked at her side. My wish is that, with the passage of time, the sadness of this moment will be replaced for family and friends by the sweetness of the memory of a person who made this world a better place.

I worked for Belinda at Golden Living for most of my 12 years at the Company. She was one of the few bosses that took an interest in learning what I did for the Company and became quite proficient in the area. She could always be counted on for having integrity, honesty and professionalism. She always had your back and given where we worked, in a large and political corporation, like any other, that was important. She was the best boss I have ever had and I was fortunate to be able to tell her that during our last meetings together. She was the glue that kept Finance and the Company together during numerous CFO changes and company successes and failures. During the downturn and sell off, she protected us all from being let go and took the stress coming from above. She was missed pretty much from the first day she retired. A real treasure that few could emulate.
