Bernice Groves

Johnnie Bernice (Smith) Groves passed away on November 8, 2022. She was born on February 10, 1931 to Clint and Ethel (Boyd) Smith. Bernice loved to bake and her children were always excited to see what treat awaited them when they got home from school. Her German Chocolate cake was requested at all get togethers. She always arrived at all family events carrying a platter of her famous peanut butter fudge. She was a stay at home mom for many years and then started a career she loved at Cowan Jewelry.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Groves, her son James Anthony Groves, her parents Clint and Ethel Smith, her sisters Leora (Dolly) Blackwood and Louise Hayes, a brother Finis Smith and her son-in-law, Charles Mock. Survivors include her daughter Theresa Mock of Fort Smith and her son Joe Groves of Texas. Her grandchildren Craig Miller, Kelly Miller Freeman (Nicholas), Meghan Webster and Connor Groves, along with her great grandchildren Madeleine Newman and Mikah Newman.

Public viewing will from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 13th at Edwards Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be on Monday, November 14th at 11:00 A.M. at the pavilion of the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
