Carolyn Jo Polk Schmidt, 78 of Fort Smith, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021. She was born on August 24, 1942 in Columbia, Mississippi to the late L.T. and Wilhelmine Polk. She was the director of the Women’s Center at St. Edward hospital, where she retired in 2007 after 35 years of service. Growing up, Carolyn attended St. Boniface School and graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic High School, where she was the head cheerleader and the homecoming queen for her senior year. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Carolyn loved her family, especially her kids and grandkids. She loved holidays and she loved shopping.
Rosary will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, Memorial Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Private committal of ashes will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by three daughters; Angie Abbey, Audra Hall and Amy Schmidt, all of Fort Smith; a son, Roger Schmidt and his wife Jennifer, of Fort Smith; a sister, Diane King and her husband Kenny, of Fort Smith; two brothers, Ronnie Polk and his wife Patti, of Fort Smith and Bill Polk and his wife Renaee, of Maumelle; eight grandchildren, Tyler Schmidt, Paige Vrbas, Spencer Schmidt, Clay Vrbas, Emily Whelan and her husband Logan, Lexie Hall, Tatum Graham, Summer Schmidt and one great grandchild, Liliana Hall. Everyone that knew Carolyn loved her, she was a G-Ma to many.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Schmidt, Spencer Schmidt, Clay Vrbas, Ryan Polk, Brent Polk, Keenen Polk and Brandon King.
