Curtis Lee Moon was born in Tyler, MN in May 1945 to Milton Frank Moon and Lavar Lorraine (Freeman) Moon, the oldest of four. After high school, Curt joined the Army and spent part of his service in western Europe, at one point stationed in France 40 miles from where his Grandpa Moon was wounded in WWI.
Upon returning stateside in 1966, Curt and his childhood sweetheart Carol Moeller started dating again and were married on August 31, 1968. Their family grew to include two children, and they moved from Minnesota to Fort Smith, AR in 1984. Curt worked as a quality control engineer at Whirlpool for 44 years, retired in 2001, then created and ran his own consulting company for another decade.
Curt faced Parkinson’s disease with courage and determination, participating in research at LSU in 2015 and a martial therapy program designed to combat the effects of neurological disorders. His attitude and his faith remained strong his entire life.
He loved travel (and his co-pilot, Carol), concerts, fishing, cooking, and gardening, and he and Carol became well known and loved in the Watt Pottery collectors’ community. Together they built a beautiful home and life.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, his best friend Tom Shimek, and his beloved Carol. He is survived by his brother Eugene (Diann) Moon of Burnsville, MN, his sisters Mona (Lloyd) Schrader and Colleen (Marlin) Wangsness of Sioux Falls, SD, his brothers-in-law Jim and Dennis Moeller, their families, his children Jeremy Moon of Erie, PA and Jennifer Moon of Los Ranchos, NM, and five grandchildren.
Service is entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home; family services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Davenport of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR. He loved and honored God, his family, and his country. Blessed be his memory.
His observations for a life well lived: Do not underestimate your capabilities. Find the good in others, but most importantly the good in yourself. To you both (his children) I would say use my opinions, forgive my shortcomings, believe in yourselves, and have fun. PS: Take 5.
