David Ray McGee, 74, of Van Buren, passed away on March 23, 2022. He was born on November 13, 1947 in Bastrop, LA to David O. McGee and Helen Maxine Graham McGee. David was a United States Army Veteran, where he served as a medic.
David loved reading, correcting people, and making sly jokes. All of his clothes were loud, and none of them matched. He loved animals and pretending like he was indifferent to animals. (Often, the latter act was attempted while actively spoiling one critter or another.)
He drove an old Toyota with a new sound system because he had his priorities straight. He used it to play Irish folk music, jazz, and 1970s singer-songwriters. If there was a passenger, though, they would likely end up listening to a lecture on some obscure moment of history instead.
David had ideas for books he didn't write. Do something you're putting off. Time is limited.
He was preceded in death by his father, David McGee, and a nephew, Dustin Medley.
David is survived by his mother, Helen Maxine McGee of Van Buren; one sister, Helen Medley (Ronald) of Fort Smith; one brother, Don McGee of Seattle, WA; two nieces, Angela Hayes (Jason) of Fayetteville, AR and Pamela Medley of Fort Smith; and one nephew, Brian Medley of Charlotte, NC.
Graveside service will be 2 PM, Thursday, March 31, at Fort Smith National Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 5 PM till 7 PM, Wednesday, March 30, at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.
