David Parrish

David E Parrish of Fort Smith; formerly of Rock Hill, SC. passed from this life on December 3, 2022. He was born in Rock Hill to Sidney W and Mozell M Parrish. David attended Schools in Rock Hill. He joined the Navy in 1942 and trained as a Gunners Mate. His first assignment was aboard the USS BUNCH, a Destroyer Escort in the North Atlantic. In 1944 he was sent to the Pacific where he served on the LST889 until his discharge in 1946.

David returned to RH where he studied for and passed his college entrance exams and attended the University of South Carolina receiving a BS in Psychology. He then moved to Hartford, Connecticut to attend the University and earned his MSW degree.

Dave began his professional career working for Red Cross dealing mainly with military families. He was based on various military bases on the East coast. He was later stationed in Bordeaux, France; Stuttgart, Germany and Seoul,Korea before leaving Red Cross.

Dave spent a number of years working for Save the Children Federation and CDF in Berea, Ky, Nashville, and Atlanta where he met and married his wife, Monette. They returned to Rock Hill and later established The Bookworm of SC, a general and college bookstore where they worked until retirement.

David was preceded in death by his parents and two sons Steven K and Stewart D Parrish.

He is survived by his wife Monette and two sons: David Jr and partner Brent Moore of Rock Hill, Scott and wife Bethany of Sarasota, Florida, and one granddaughter Sara Parrish

Dave enjoyed his retirement working in his woodworking shop, volunteering at the Library, travelling, attending Noon Civics Club, Thursday Morning Prayer Breakfast and Rotary Club.

The family expresses their gratitude to Shari and Ashley from Mercy Hospice for their wonderful care and loving kindness during David's illness.
