Dorothy L. Card, who celebrated her 99th birthday last week, crossed over on 03-03-2023. She passed peacefully in her home. She was welcomed to heaven by her husband of 64 years, Wyman Card, who preceded her in death in 2010. They are now dancing together on the other side.
Dorothy was born on February 22, 1924, in Cane Hill, Arkansas to Frank and Eddie Morris. She met Wyman in June of 1946 in Oklahoma when he came through her line at the grocery store where she was a checker. It was love at first sight…for him. She made him buy a lot of milk before she would agree to a date. They married six weeks later on August 5, 1946. Together they had two sons, James, and Richard.
Dorothy retired from driving the BOST school bus in 1975 to spend time caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning pickles and beets, trips to Branson, watching the Cardinals (birds and team), spending time with her grandson, and the company of her many friends. Dorothy is survived by her son Rick and his wife Sherry, her son James, her grandson Ryan and his wife Kelsey, her three great-grandchildren, Mason, Mila, and Miles, and her granddaughter, Heather. In her final days, she was fortunate to have the love and care of incredible aides, Lori, Betty, Suzie, and Jenean.
Service will be held on Thursday, at 10:00 am, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery (522 Garland Avenue), where she will join her husband once again. Eulogy will be given by Ilona Buzick and Beverly Claypool. Donations may be made in her memory to BOST, Inc, 5812 Remington Circle, Fort Smith, AR 72903, or go to www.bost.org, or to Abilities Unlimited, 3205 Kibler Road, Van Buren, AR, or go to www.auifs.org.
