Emilio Mendez

Emilio Mendez, 97 of Fort Smith, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014. He was born June 16, 1916 in Isabela, Puerto Rico to the late Santiago and Lauriana Mendez. He was a member of West-Ark Church of Christ and a retired Steelworker for United States Steel Corporation in Illinois. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Pablo Mendez.

Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Oak Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith.

Mr. Mendez is survived by his daughter Rosa Burgos of Miami, FL; seven sons: Luis Mendez of Fort Smith, Pete Mendez of Lavaca, Juan Mendez of Chicago, IL, Hector Mendez of Lavaca, Carmelo Mendez of Lavaca, David Mendez of FL, and Jorge Mendez of Miami, FL. He is also survived by four sisters; Virginia Mendez of New York, Ana Maria Mendez, Maria Mendez, and Lily Maria Mendez all of Puerto Rico, three brothers; Jose Mendez, Ramon Mendez, and Reinaldo Mendez all of Puerto Rico, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Juan, Hector, Carmelo, Luis, Jorge, and Manuel Mendez.
