Born on October 4, 1954, in Fort Smith, he was the son of Delbert and Tommie Jean Conklin.
Gary spent much of his life as a successful business owner and a skilled carpenter. He was known by many for his craftsmanship and dedication to his work. He was an avid fan of Razorback sports. Perhaps, the only sports he loved more than the Hogs were any sports that his grandkids were playing!
He quoted the following on more than one occasion: "Persevere- take everyone's best shot and still be standing- defy defeat!" He remained true to this statement until his very last day on this Earth. What Gary was most proud of in this life were his kids and grandkids.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his children: Arch Conklin and his wife, Heather; Ashley Hoopaw and her husband, Loren; and Adrianna Wagner. He is also remembered by his sisters, Teri Hicks and Patricia Williams, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Madi Conklin, Conner Lentz, Cooper Lentz, Calileigh Hoopaw, Cailynn Hoopaw, CharliAnn Hoopaw, Carolina Hoopaw, Chesni Hoopaw, Brenden Hubble, Braxton Hubble, Bryleigh Hubble, Braelyn Stolts, and Bentley Wagner.
The family wishes to thank Heart of Hospice for the exceptional care given to Gary in his final days.
