Born in Fort Smith, he worked as a printer at Weldon Williams and Lick for 45 years. He supplemented the family income by repairing radios and TVs and delivering an Oklahoma City newspaper. He retired in 1994, but then enjoyed being a "professional driver" for Enterprise Rent A Car. He also volunteered to prepare tax returns for "the old folks" at RSVP until he was 91 years old. He had an impact on the lives of multiple young boys coaching church league baseball for Grand Avenue Baptist Church for over 20 years and teaching a Sunday school class there for young boys. In addition to his sweet wife Marvena, some of his favorite things were maple Long Johns, candy bars, bacon and swinging on his porch swing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years Marvena Chitwood, son Dr. Glen Chitwood (Leigh Anne) of Bentonville, daughter Jan Martini (John) of Fort Smith, grandchildren Cara Whedbee (Gilmer, TX), Linsey Williams (Coweta OK), Gabe Martini (Leander, TX), Adam Chitwood (Tulsa, OK), Kylie Meerholz (Jenks, OK), Ryan Hollis (Bella Vista, AR) and 12 Great Grandchildren.
