James Milton Satterfield, 84, of Fort Smith passed from this life April 23, 2022, in Fort Smith. He was born October 2, 1937, in Abbott, Arkansas, to Melvin Lester Satterfield and Ethel Doss Satterfield. Milton was a 1956 graduate of Mansfield High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Arkansas, where he earned a degree in Marketing. Milton was an avid Arkansas Razorback basketball fan and an armchair statistician when watching games from home. He enjoyed reading and studying maps and geography, even turning a room into his map man cave, and he loved to drive around in areas he had studied. Milton was a fine singer, once having been part of a chorus at U of A, and although mostly self-taught on piano, he loved playing and singing with gusto from his living room. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and for several years was an active member of the Fort Smith Senior Bowling League. Milton was proud to be a lifelong resident of Scott and Sebastian counties. He was a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Nell Satterfield. He is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Patton (Keith) of Plano, Texas, and Melissa Satterfield of Fort Smith, Arkansas; son, Neal Satterfield (Courtney) of Alma, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Carissa Patton and Rylee and Cooper Satterfield. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookfield Assisted Living for their loving care of Milton over the past 16 months. He was happy in his final earthly home, which meant the world to us.
Funeral services will be officiated by Dr. Steve Young at 11:00am Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
