

John “Mac” McElhaney, 71, of Fort Smith, passed from life May 26, 2017 in Fort Smith. He was born September 7, 1945 in Fort Smith, to the late Ottis Edward and Gladys Carter McElhaney. Mac was a veteran of the United States Army, and later a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 8845. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially loving to hunt and fish. Mac was so fond of Bar-B-Q; his grill was never much further than arms reach.
He is survived by his son, Sean Richard McElhaney of Dallas, Texas; his brothers and sisters, Glynn Dean Spangenberg of Dallas, Patsy Stem of Fort Smith, Margaret Younger of Dallas, Ottis Edward McElhaney, Jr of Dallas Wanda Beattie of Dallas and Robert McElhaney of Tulsa; four grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial graveside service was held at 11:00am Friday, June 2, 2017 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with U.S. Army and VFW honors. A memorial service will be held in Dallas from 2:00 to 5:00pm Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Spiritual Living, 4801 Spring Valley Road #115, Dallas, Texas. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
