August 19, 1937 - Sept 25, 2018
Lloyd was born in Ft. Smith, AR to Lloyd Carrol Eacret, Sr. and Violet Pauline Flippin Eacret. He attended Bell Pointe Elementary, Northside Jr. High and North Side High. He sang in a quartet and was a member of the Glee Club in high school. When he graduated high school, he and his girlfriend, Cora Sue (Susie) McFerran, were very much in love. Her mother, Ruby Faye, asked him to wait to marry her until she graduated high school. After he spent a year in the Navy where he was a member of the famed Navy Choir, The Bluejackets, they were married on June 10th 1956. Soon after, they moved to Key West, Florida, where Lloyd served as a radioman. When he was deployed to Midway Island, they learned that Susie was expecting their first child. Unfortunately, she was not permitted to go with him to Midway, so she moved back to Ft. Smith to have the baby and the support of her family.
When Lloyd got out of the Navy, in 1959, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where they raised their three children: Tammi, Bucky and Trudy. At 32, Lloyd decided to go to college and pursue a music degree at Dallas Baptist College. It was there that he met music professor, Don Cowan. Their mutual love of music and travel ensured they would become lifelong best friends. Lloyd became a member of the Dallas Baptist College Choir, and under the direction of Don Cowan, they traveled to the Holy Land and had the honor of singing in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve. Lloyd was the music and choir director for several Dallas area Baptist Churches.
In 1985, Lloyd and Susie move back to Ft. Smith where he became the music and choir director for Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Lloyd loved to travel and he loved golf. He was a charter member of the Q&A men’s group of Ft. Smith, better known as the “Lick & Stick Bunch”, with many of his childhood friends.
Lloyd was a singer, songwriter, a poet and a painter. He loved all kinds of music, as you will hear by the music that will be played today.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Eacret, Sr.; his mother, Violet Flippin Eacret; his brothers, Bobby Lloyd and Jim Eacret; and nephew, Sam Eacret. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 62 years, Susie Eacret who passed away just a month ago.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Tammi Eacret Nameth, Lloyd Carrol Eacret, III (Bucky) and Trudy Lynn Eacret; grandchildren, Corey, Craig & Cale Wyatt & Callie Wamukota; and great grandchildren, Cora, Story & Stevie and two more on the way.
