Lucy Katherine Ward Thames

On March 27, 2012 God called one of His servants home. She was born Lucy Katherine Ward on June 16, 1952. Lucy filled her 59 years with an unmatchable ability to love and care for her family, friends and anyone who needed her, especially children. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Claude and Jim Wilson Ward, Ben and Geneva Burge, and unborn child, and parents Frances and William Ward, Sr. Lucy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mike Thames; her children, Michael Thames and his wife, Elizabeth, Julie Young and her husband, Michael, Sarah Stephenson and her husband, Casey; a sister, Nancy Taylor; a brother, William Ward Jr and his wife Vicki; her cherished grandchildren, Will, Hailey, and Lucy Thames, Luke and Max Young; nieces, Leigh Ward, Brooke Gadke, Courtney Sundquist, Lisa Hill, and Lacy McCain. She is also survived by her nephews, who are serving as Pallbearers, Graham Thames, Ryan Conyers, Sage Goodner, Patrick Taylor, Bill McCain, Damon Hill, Wilson Ward, and Matt Cheshier. Lucy served God in many ways, most of her service involved the nurturing of her children and other children in need. She was a lay therapist for S.C.A.N., on the Lincoln Day Care Board, she was active in The Children’s Service League, and she took leadership roles in numerous PTA’s. Funeral service will be 10:00 Friday, March 30, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith with Reverend David Orr officiating under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th Street, Fort Smith, AR.
