

She was born September 6, 1926 in McLean, Texas to Will and Ada Woodward. Mary K. moved to Fort Smith at an early age where she attended school, graduating from Fort Smith High School with the Class of 1945. She then attended, what was then, Fort Smith Junior College. In May 1947, Mary K. married Jack A. Henson, who died in May 1985.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and a member of PEO, Chapter “J”. Mary K. has previously served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity and the Sparks Hospital Women’s Board. She retired from New York Life Insurance Company after 22 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary K. is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Woodward Henson, and sister, Rita (Earl) Hulsey.
Mary K. is survived by her daughter Jane (Mike) Rappeport; grandsons, Sam and Jack (Janie) Rappeport and Abe Henson; great grandsons, Jack and Joe Rappeport; and great granddaughter Aspen Ann Henson. She is also survived by her nephew Ken (Cindy) Hulsey, sister-in-law Mary Nelle (Allen) Hales, and brother-in-law Joe Henson, along with many beloved Henson nieces and nephews.
Mary K. had many lifelong friends that were so very special to her. A heartfelt thank you to Mary K.’s loving care givers through her last many months. Her family is also grateful to Heart of Hospice for their exceptional care, and also the caring staff of Methodist Village over the last three months.
A Family Committal will take place Friday, August 16, at 10:30am at Oak Cemetery followed by Memorial Service at 11:00am at First Baptist Church, 1400 Grand Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72901, led by Pastor Dale Thompson.
