Dear Gately Family:
    We were so sorry to learn of your loss. Nancy was a dear person who touched both of our lives and we were deeply saddened by her death.
    I first met Nancy when I moved to Ft. Smith our 3rd grade year. She welcomed me to Fairview Elementary in Mrs. Ramsey’s class and became my best friend until I moved to Dardanelle at the end of 5th grade.  I will never forget her beautiful smile and bubbly personality.  She was always so cheerful and fun to be around.
    After I moved, I would see her once a year at All-Region band try-outs.  We both played flute and sat next to each other our senior year in high school.  Then, I was surprised when I transferred to Hendrix College; there she was again in Veasey Hall where I happened to be assigned.  My husband also knew her from the beginning of the freshman year at orientation. I have a set of ceramic bells she made that we hang on our Christmas tree every year, so although we haven’t seen each other in 35 years, I often think of her.
    I still have family in the Russellville area (Dardanelle) and they are the ones who saw Nancy’s obituary in the local paper. Our daughter is at ATU and I regret that I did not know Nancy was so near. Steve and Stan, you were in class at Fairview with my brother, Ray Edwards.  He still lives in that area.  
    It was very moving to read the wonderful comments about Nancy and how she touched so many lives.  She touched our lives and will not be forgotten.

So very sorry to hear of Ms. Gately's passing.  I truly enjoyed taking care of her in the Skilled Nursing unit.  We shared many humorous moments together.  Truly one that will always hold a special place in my heart!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. My step-daughter had Mrs. Gately for kindergarten and she was just wonderful. She was very patient and caring and I am sure will be very missed by many.

My children were blessed with having Miss Gately as a teacher and the kids will still tell you (even though one is out of school and the other getting close) they adored her and she made a difference in their start to an education. She was a true blessing in every sense of the word. When Callie was in her class and was hospitalized, Ms Gately came to see her because she took a 100% interest in each and every child in her class. Anyone in this town that ever had the honor of knowing her cannot look at a Strawberry without smiling and thinking of this wonderful person and teacher. This is truly a great loss for the education system and for our society. She will be greatly missed by all and never forgotten by anyone that met her.

I am also one of the blessed parents that both of my children (Brittany and Jake) had Miss Gately for kindergarten. I knew when they were with her each day that I didn't have to worry about anything.  It was clear that she loved the kids and that they were her life. No matter how she might have been feeling she was also
smiling, nothing got her down. The kids still have their strawberry name tags, the christmas ornaments, but most of all wonderful memories of their first year of school. Miss Gately thank you for all the lives you have touched, you will be sadly missed.

While going to school with Nancy, I don't believe I ever saw her that she  wasn't smiling.  My prayers are with her family at this time.

As I took my children Zackary & Savannah to Nancy Gately's visitation last night it brought back so many memories for both my children and for Carl & I. When Zackary graduated High School Ms. Gately sent him a card with the sweetest note reminding him of him singing the Lion King in class with Micha & Nick as back up singers...Savannah always remembers that if you were good you got to get a starwberry out of the jar and was devistated the day she had to move her "stawberry" upside down on the board for talking...Ms. Gately impacted both my children in such positive ways. Savannah gives Ms. Gately credit for aspiring her to become a kindergarten teacher. Ms. Gately was'nt just their teacher she became a part of our family. She did inservice hours for my Staff at the daycare and keep up and in touch with my kids. Her heart was so big that it overflowed with love and joy to all those who knew her. I know that she is in Heaven with her Heavenly Father and is out of pain and in a strong and healthy body. She was loved and has left a long lasting impact on the lives that she has touch. We should all try to live our lives as she did...share our knowledge and pass it on to others...I fell so blessed to have known her and for her loving my children as she did. We meet her brothers, her sister and her nephew that she talked about all the time last night, it was such a honor to meet and visit with them...and as we left, her nephew Mark came and gave Savannah the Biggest "Hug" ever...I felt like it was Nancy giving her the Hug...God is so good to us all. We Love you Nancy.

She will be missed in our dining room she was always smiling and hugging all she came in contact with. She always told me how much she loved my salads i would prepare special for her.  I will miss her....

Both of my kids had Miss Gately as their kindergarten teacher.  We loved her so very much. She took care of them as if they were her own.  My son has a hearing disability and she would always make sure everything was working and he could understand everything he needed to.  We still talk about Miss Gately every time we find something with strawberries on it and my kids are now in 6th & 9th grade. She will be missed.  She was truly one of the best! Happy Birthday, Miss Gately! (See, I didn't forget!)

Miss Gately was a wonderful person, and the perfect kindergarten teacher.  My daughter Elyse was in her class, and two years later I specifically requested that my son Stephen be in her class also.  She was so sweet, and had such a sweet smile and wonderful attitude.  My kids still have strawberries they made in her class, and piggy banks also.  She made school a very positive experience, which is extremely important in the beginning stages.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.  My sympathy goes out to her family.  I know they are comforted by the knowledge that she is free from pain and free to fly.  She was a wonderful person, and Heaven has a sweet angel.

I absolutely adored Ms. Gately and was saddened to hear of her passing.  She was an inspiration to us all and the world will be a sadder place without her smile.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.  She will be sorely missed. Katie LaMar, LPN St Mary's SNF

My son was in Miss Gately's class 4 years ago,the same year she and I became friends. We would talk almost every morning,and she would tell me stories about growing up with her brothers and sister and how special they each were to her. She was a teacher that cared about the kids,and was so proud when they "got it" . She was a wonderful lady,and we are so lucky to have known her. She made a difference in the lives of so many,students and parents alike, and will always be 'the first teacher' to us.Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to have Miss Gately as a teacher, but I do remember her very well. Everytime I passed her she would always smile. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed. God added a very special lady to his list of teachers. She will always be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.

She was one of the best and very adored teachers in Alma I will always remember her smiling face and all those strawberries. But she is now in a place where she no longer hurts and move so freely with the biggest smile on her face.

My dear sweet friend I will miss you. We were always on a mission to find Russell Stover Strawberry cream hearts... we would even call each other when we found them at the holiday.I have never met anyone in my life who could get more accomplished then Nancy. She loved her life even with all her pain and she never gave up. Heaven is a sweeter place today with you there.

2 of my children were luck enough to be in Miss Gately's class. We spent a lot of time looking for anything that had strawberries on it. My husband was deployed when my youngest child was in kindergarden. While she was not in Miss Gately's class, Nancy would always seek my daughter out and give her hugs and words of encouragment. She was very special to our family and we will miss her very much.

Nancy was one of the first people I met when I came to SHS Band in '71.  She was a very upbeat and positve person.  Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Nancy touched so many childrens lives in such a loving and special way.  Alma schools has lost an angel today.

I did not know Nancy for very long but she was a blessing to me and so many others. She touched our lives with her upeat positive attitude towards life with all she was going through. She is an example to us all. She will be truly missed.

I was lucky enough to have Miss Gately for a kindergarten teacher and I will never forget her. She was so sweet and so patient with all of us. She loved her job and her students and we all loved her in return. I was able to sit in her classroom again when I did my student teaching and she was the same sweet teacher that I remembered from when I was sitting in a desk in her classroom. I was really hoping my daughter could have her for a kindergarten teacher too, but I guess God needed a good teacher in Heaven and chose the very best one He could find. Miss Gately, I hope you are enjoying your wings and having a good time with your new class of angels. I love you and I'll never forget you.

Miss Gately was the perfect kindergarten teacher. I spent many hours looking for strawberries that my daughters could take to her.  She had two of my daughters, Lacy and Cassie and they both loved her along with me. She gave both of them the best start to an education anyone could ask for. Her classroom was her life. She gave everything to those kids. We will miss her dearly. We always kept in touch with a christmas card. Again, she was dearly loved by everyone she touched. I know she is feeling no pain now. What a fighter.
