Nicholas "Nick" Brandon Nelms

Nicholas Brandon Nelms, 38, of Charleston, AR passed peacefully at home from this life to his eternal home on March 10, 2021, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 23, 1982 in Fort Smith, AR to Steve Nelms and Karen Mizell Stem, who were both lovingly by Nick’s side as he was welcomed into heaven by his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Nick was a devoted, loving, and proud father whose greatest joy was spending time with his son, Caden; riding dirt bikes and Polaris RZRs, playing baseball, and camping. Nick loved the outdoors; spending time at the lake, hunting and fishing with his Dad, grilling and swimming at “Nana’s” house with all of the kids, and playing with his dog, Lui. Nick loved to have fun but was also a hard worker who took great pride in his work. He spent many years building swimming pools at Luther Stem Pools & Spas and was always there for a friend or family member to lend a helping hand when they needed something fixed. Nick was a gentle giant with a heart of gold and a smile and spirit that would brighten and bring joy to the darkest of days. His illuminating spirit will continue to live in all who loved him.

Nick is survived by his son Caden of Greenwood; his mother and her husband, Karen and Luther Stem III of Fort Smith; his father and his wife, Steve and Karon Nelms of Charleston; sisters, Angela Stem of Napa Valley, CA and LaDonna Chambers and her husband Rodney of Liberty, OK; his brother Nathan Stem and his wife Kayla of Fort Smith; his paternal grandmother Vyrl Nelms of Fort Smith, and Caden’s mother Alecia Nelms. Nick also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Billy Nelms; his maternal grandparents Jimmie and Geneva Mizell; his maternal step grandparents Luther, Jr. and Betty Jo Stem; two uncles, Jerry McClain and Harley Ray Mizell, and two aunts Dianna Mizell and Shirley Mizell.

A Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held at 1:30pm Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, with the burial following at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, AR.
