Norma Catherine Treadway, age 91 of Fort Smith, died Wednesday evening in her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born April 6th, 1924 in Booneville, Arkansas to Esther and Wallace Lacy. Norma was married to Wayne Treadway on May 11th, 1943 and waited on him to return from the war to eventually settle in Fort Smith. As a mother and housewife, Norma devoted much of her time to raising her four children and to the Grand Avenue Baptist Church as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Her biggest career achievement was spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never running out of Juicy Fruit gum or trips after school for ice cream. Though quiet and shy, she was the “Hostess with the Mostest” and could out-cook Paula Deen. She was a great backseat driver and loved to travel, while avoiding airplanes. She tried keeping up with her husband and brother on the golf course and loved trips to the lake. She had a yard that could win a garden show and was an avid shopper. She always had on the cutest trendy outfits and couldn’t pass up a good sale. She leaves behind a closet full of shoes and purses. She was spoiled by her husband, who still called her “Kiddo” and was loved by everyone who crossed her path.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Sherman Lacy, sons Robert Treadway and Ronald Treadway, and great-grandson, Tanner Treadway.
She leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Wayne Treadway of Fort Smith; her sister and caretaker, Frances Mikles of Fort Smith, and her sister Louise Johnston of Fort Smith; two daughters, Kathy Glidewell and husband John of Fort Smith, and Kim Millwood and husband Mark of Nashville, AR; granddaughters, Robin Gillespie of Fort Smith, Sarah Sawyer of Fort Smith, Jenna Millwood of Little Rock, Leah Pope and husband Jason of Nashville, AR, and Melissa Millwood of Fayetteville; grandsons, Todd Treadway and wife Tausha of Van Buren, Wes Sawyer and Wife Angela of Fort Smith; great-grandchildren, Paxton Gillespie, Jake Gillespie, Tyler Treadway, Mila Pope, and Ava Sawyer.
Special thanks to all of Norma’s wonderful caretakers; Frances, Sally, Ruth, Dorothy, Neva, Jessie, Diana, and her sweet nurse Mary.
