Omar Gibson

Omar Gibson, 93, of Fort Smith died April 9, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born January 17, 1920, in Boydell, AR to Travis and Elizabeth Thompson Gibson. Omar was retired Command Sergeant Major 8th Army 12th Artillery with 20 years’ of service. After retiring from the Army, he started his own business, Omar’s Sportsman. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Eastern Star and Fraternal order of Eagles.

He is survived by his sons, Dr. Wm. Patrick Gibson of Saint Louis, MO, Mike Gibson of Eudora, AR and Steve Gibson of Van Buren; two granddaughters, Galena Renee Gibson and Tia Elizabeth Rushing and her husband Curt, as well as three great grandchildren, Caleb and Carolann Williams and Westin Rushing. He is the widower of Ginette Renee Gibson.

Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Monday, April 15, 2013 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Hippe and Rev. David Viles officiating. A eulogy will be given by his son Mike. Burial will follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery, with military honors. Following the funeral, there will be a reception at the Clayton House, 514 North 6th Street, Fort Smith AR. Visitation will be Sunday, April, 14, 2013 from 2:00 until 4:00PM at Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Alan Atchley, Charles and Benjamin Outlaw, Kevin and Dennis Williamson, Rick Vandermillion, and John Cearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the River Valley Ovarian Cancer Coalition, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Omar Gibson, c/o Treasurer, 925 Elm St, Fort Smith, AR 72903.
