James Phillip Whitten,Jr “Little Phil” was born to Phil and Merlene Whitten on September 13, 1971. Phil left his earthly home on Saturday, December 30, 2023, in the wee hours of the morning to take up his eternal residence in Heaven. Phil had been ill for the majority of his life, and we are at peace and believe that he passed from uncontrolled diabetes complications.
Phil was employed by the Fort Smith Public School System at Ramsey Middle School. Phil was a proud alumnus of Ramsey and a Ram through and through. He was also a graduate of Southside High School and a die hard Rebel to the end! We are sure Phil bled Razorback Red too.
Phil was the kindest, most gentle person, and he never met a stranger. He spoke to everyone he met, and he treated everyone he knew as his best friend. We, Phil’s family, encourage all who are reading this to LOVE like Phil!
Phil never married but lived an abundant and happy life. He served his church,Oak Cliff Baptist Church, as a ministry assistant for some 30 years. He loved his Lord Jesus, his family and his family at Oak Cliff!
Phil leaves behind two sisters- Sherry Goodrum and her husband John and Phyllis Poole and her husband Jimmy-and three beloved nieces- Breanne Smith, her husband Caleb, their miracle baby Astrid Smith, Amy Goodrum, and Carlee Goodrum.
Visitation will be at Edwards Funeral Home Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 5-7 pm; a funeral service will be at Oak Cliff Baptist Church Friday, January 5th at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Gideons International C/O Oak Cliff Baptist Church, 3701 Gary Street, Fort Smith, AR 72903, or a contribution can be made to support international missions through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 3900 Grand Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72904
