I knew Sam from high school until recently he was one of the kindest gentleman I ever knew in highschool he was a incredible good friend and continued to be my favorite person. 

My husband, Bert, and I started our family in a house across from Sam and Audrey.  They were always a source of support and friendship for us.  They gave us advice when I was pregnant.  Audrey brought food when we were sick and gave parenting advice.  They were the ones that introduced the wooden spoon discipline method, much to the chagrin of my children!  Sam was not happy with the cupola that my grandad built.  He took it off the roof and cut it down in size and put it back up . Then he stood back and admired his work.  He laughed and commented that the slats on the cupola always bent when it rained and straightened up when it dried up.  I remember him up on his roof and the boys right up there with him.  Audrey said she was surprised that child services didn’t call on them because Clint was always getting hurt and bruised up.  Clint leaned out of a top floor window, when he was a little fellow, and fell to the ground.  Luckily he fell into the rolled up waterbed hose.  It was a pleasure to watch the Lowery kids growing up.  There was always a lot to laugh about with Sam’s family.  I am grateful for our time together and the help and friendship that they gave to us.  I am grateful to them for inviting us to Thanksgiving dinner, because our family lived in another town.  Audrey loaned me her car when mine was in the shop so I could take Nathan to the doctor.  They always were willing to help out.  I loved Sam’s mom.  She was funny and friendly.  She made my babies froggy bean bags and sang funny songs and told stories. Doug and his family lived next door, Sam lived across the street.  Sam’s parents lived down at the end of the road.  Everybody in the neighborhood had kids and an ugly dog.  We would all walk and enjoy the kids.  The kids climbed my willow tree, built a scarecrow, and made an egg tree.  Thanks to the Lowery’s for being funny and loving and sharing your kids with us.  Thanks for the encouragement.  I will not forget our time on South Jackson Street.

Sam was a fellow Boy Scout of America leader along with Scout Master Chip Marrin, John Lyon and Bill Stuckey.  We went on many campouts together.   Sam and I taught Sunday School together at CCF for many years.  Sam would bring his guitar and sing.  Now Sam wasn't the best guitar player and didn't have the best voice but he was full of enthusiasm and we had a great time together with the kids,  Sam, Bill Stuckey and I use to meet at CCF on Friday mornings before work to pray with one another.  We called ourselves the Burrito brothers.  Sam was a good friend.  I lost track of him after moving away from Fort Smith many years ago, but I will always remember his smile, willingness to help with any project, love for the Lord, and love for friends.   We will miss you my old friend.

I have so many lovely memories with the Lowrey family, as we spent  many times together at CCF,  at meals and other activities!  What I enjoy remembering about Sam is his delightful laugh and his big smile.
He very kindly put in a doorbell at the house for us once, and it works well to this day.  Sam was always willing to help with projects, I remember his help in many situations.
One of our favorite group after church places to eat was Mazzio's, and I distinctly remember one time when Judy did a back flip out of her high chair and Sam caught her mid air!  We all shared lots of laughs and lots of tears during those rich years of life.

My love and prayers are with his family during this season of life; I know Sam is enjoying life with Jesus now, which is a great comfort to all.

Sam was a part of a great family that made a big impact on Fort Smith. My family has known the Lowreys for a long time. Each one of the siblings and their children are precious to us and we grieve for them during yet another loss of a loved one. Our hearts go out to the family and many friends Sam made in his lifetime. May God give you peace. Love to all.


Sam was just a good guy, king of the bull talkers is a nice way to put it. Always had a smile. I could never tell when he was telling me the truth or leading me down a dirt road. I have known Sam since High school and have always looked up to him. I went to the hospital this past Sunday morning after church and found an empty room. I was heart broke. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and many friends. He is in a better place, the Lord has him now.

Sam was always the guy with the smile on his face even when he was in tremendous pain the smile was still there.  I didn't ever get to know Sam real well but he was always nice and friendly toward me. However Doug and i were good friends and closer to the same age. My respects go out to the family, there really are no words at a time like this.  I'm sure you can find peace and solace knowing he is in a much better place.
