Sharon Kay Burr, age 72, of Fort Smith, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with scleroderma. Sharon was of the Methodist faith. Her steadfast faith in God allowed her to enjoy life much longer than any medical professional thought possible. It would be wrong to say she lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Sharon stood strong. Through her we learned what resilience and perseverance truly look like.
She was a loving wife, mother, Mimi, sister and friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most generous, loving heart and touched the lives of many with her joyful spirit, smile and endless optimism. Sharon especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending her grandchildren’s events. She was “Mimi” to countless friends she had met through her grandchildren’s baseball, theater, football, dance and endless events.
She was born on July 9, 1951 to the late Russell and Dorothy Brown Miller. Having worked many careers in her lifetime, Sharon was most happy when she was able to focus all of her efforts on her family. She loved staying home baking, cooking, painting and laughing with her family – especially her grandchildren. Anyone that knows Sharon’s family knows she is a star in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years Chuck, her daughter and best friend, Melissa Hanesworth (Bill) of Fort Smith, two sons, Jason Burr (Jennifer) of Fort Smith and Matthew Burr (Brinda) of Benton, AR, four sisters, Diane Hanegan (Rick) of Marshalltown, IA, Kim Sims (James) of Rogers, AR and Cheryl Clabby and Vickie Sheets.
Sharon’s pride and joy are her eleven grandchildren Jacee, Aaron, Sadie, Will, Eli, Jordan, Jaidy, Madison, Chance, Kinleigh, and Janson as well as her three great grandchildren Russell, Jayden and Sandra Claire.
In addition to her parents, Sharon is preceded in death by her brother Terry Miller and two great
grandchildren, Jackson and Bennett Tigue.
Memorial service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
