Allen Clay Caldwell Sr., affectionately known as Clay, passed away peacefully at his home in Fishers, Indiana, on Monday, April 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness. He was 60 years old.
Born on December 23, 1964, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Clay was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend whose strength, wisdom, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. A proud 1983 graduate of Carroll High School, Clay answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army in March 1986. He served with honor and integrity until his discharge in March 1989.
Following his military service, Clay built a successful civilian career, beginning with GTE (later Verizon), where he dedicated 20 years of service before transitioning to the Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS). He remained committed to excellence in his work until retiring in November 2024 after 16 years with DFAS, stepping away due to health challenges he faced with quiet bravery.
A lifelong learner and determined professional, Clay earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Indiana Tech and later completed his Master of Business Administration in 2015, a testament to his dedication to growth and excellence.
On February 7, 2025, Clay united in love and devotion with Terri Cook in a heartfelt ceremony at home, officiated by their beloved sister, Nicki Venable. Their bond was a reflection of deep companionship and unwavering support.
Clay was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Chapter, and cherished the brotherhood he found there. A passionate golfer, he found joy and camaraderie on the course, especially during rounds played with his fraternity brothers.
Clay’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Terri L. Caldwell; his loving mother, Geneva A. Caldwell; his children: Anthony Goheen of Nashville, TN, Cameron Caldwell of Fishers, IN, Brittany Guy of Fort Wayne, IN, Joseph Michael Cook (Elizabeth Hughes) of Fishers, IN, and Mariah Cook of Fishers, IN; his siblings: Curry (Jennifer) Caldwell of Columbus, OH, Paul (Nina) Caldwell of Fort Wayne, IN, Kaprice (Adrias) Barnett of Fort Wayne, IN, and Nicki (Michael) Venable of Columbia City, IN; his cherished grandson, Sky Cook, and god-mother, Martha Hatch of Fort Wayne, IN. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
He is reunited in eternal peace with his father, Paul S. “Ricky” Caldwell; his grandparents, Henry and DeFrancis Hatch; and his beloved sons, Allen C. Caldwell Jr. and Jalen V. Caldwell.
Clay’s life was a tapestry woven with service, perseverance, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
A visitation for Clay will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Pilgrim Baptist Church of Fort Wayne, 1331 Gay St., Fort Wayne, IN 46803, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 am.
