Anne and Family…I know this is a difficult day for you all, so hold tight to those beautiful memories and each other! When I visit my late husband John at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, I also say hello to his late brother Pat, and Barry. I will go there today. It is a lovely, warm & sunny day and the view of San Diego’s city and harbor is gorgeous. I like to think that the three guys are enjoying the view while talking and laughing with each other. It gives me great comfort and I hope it does for you all, as well. 💜 Marilyn

I grew up with Barry and his siblings. They were my next door neighbors. In the summers we played kickball almost nightly in the lot next to our house. We had great times together! It was a wonderful all-American childhood that we shared. We also went to the same church as kids. Our families were close and shared much in common. I thank God for knowing the Clark family. Peace and God’s blessings to you all.

Anne, I am so sorry that your journey with Barry on earth is over. May all the wonderful memories carry you through this difficult time.  You and your family are in my prayers. 

Dear Annie,
I knew of Barry in high school but it was after I met & married John that I was formally introduced to him. It wasn’t too long after that time that you & Barry met and began dating, and we all became fast friends. When you traveled from Chicago to see Barry and stayed with John & me, we would all get together and have so much fun! Seeing the picture of your wedding party as well as the one of us all visiting in Chicago on St. Paddy’s Day, brought back very fond memories - as well as happy tears. You & Barry were so in love and had so much love for your beautiful family; you made quite a fantastic team! What we always loved about Barry was his kind & gentle way, as well as that delightful sense of humor and mischievous little side glance & smile. I just know he and John have reunited and are having some good conversation & a few laughs together. I am sorry that there are so many miles between us and I could not be there with you during this difficult time, yet I am only a phone call or text away. Looking back to 1971, the first meeting of Barry and Anne (I think) - I meet Barry Clark (and Anne) approximately 50 years ago while accompanying my mom (Ellen Rose Massart-Custer) to visit my Uncle Francis and Aunt Molly in Chicago and on to a family reunion in Wisconsin. Barry and my cousin Fritz Massart, Jr. where retuning home after serving as US Marines in Vietnam and visited Chicago on the way. From the onset, these two guys behaved like brothers and had a dynamic but subtle presence. Being an impressionable teenager (appx. 14), I instantly took to them. I remember being invited along on several activities that included Anne and another cousin (or close friend) sorry I don’t remember her name. We went bike riding along Lake Michigan. While in the car Barry sang along with the radio to “Smiling Faces”. I still remember his baritone voice. We also went to the movies one evening. I remember my mom comments of approval when she learned some time later that Anne and Barry where a couple. 

Dear Anne, Patricia, Joshua and family, I was deeply saddened to learn of Barry’s passing and your loss. All those years ago you and Barry treated me like a little brother and I have always remembered that! Please know I will remember Barry always, especially on Memorial Day and when I hear “Smiling Faces” 😊

Anne, my heart breaks as you walk this path. The many times we talked about Barry and his agate hunting,  they were so beautiful! The garden you lovingly tended together ❤.  The beautiful family you created,  both your  children and their children! The traveling you did together and all the memories you made together.  You were so young and in love, and the years blessed you both in so many ways. I hope your heart is full of the love you had until you meet again in God's presence.  Cheryl

Dear Anne,  All my condolences. I remember Barry most vividly in the early years of Your life together when you met him
through your cousin Francis.  Barry had been in Vietnam with him.  I was very impressed that he had been in such a struggle but he was so quiet and easy to talk with. The quiet man with thoughtful things to say.  I am so sorry he is gone.

Anne and family,  We have so many memories or our time spent with you and Barry.  We saw more parts of the USA than we ever would have without you guys.   From Niagara Falls to Mackinaw Island  to the Grand Canyon and many places in between, we laughed, looked for rocks,  and had a great time.  Loved it all.    Condolences to all the family as we are sorry for Barry's passing.  His is truly missed.  Love you.

While I did not have the privilege of knowing your Dearest Barry/Dad well, I do have very distinct and vividly fond memories of him.  During my visit to WI ,several years ago ,  I was fortunate enough to sit next to him.  I tend to babble and it was years since I’d seen the family.  Barry ( tall gentle) sat with his hands together looking at me. He was so attentive with this quiet kindness and calming gaze as I babbled on.  And his eyes so reassuring. He barely knew me!  Then his big smile exuding hope and a joy that I’ll never forget.

Ann, I did not know Barry well, but he always felt like a friend when I was around him. Peace. 

We adored Barry and loved visiting the family whenever we could fly over from England for vacations, and our more frequent recent visits when we lived in MD and spent our summers road-tripping to the Midwest. We loved spending time with you all in Fort Wayne, where the children were always delighted by Barry showing them around his garden and telling them all about the varieties of fruit and vegetable he was growing. Barry taught them all to fish and their strongest childhood memories are standing by the lake or out in a boat at dawn in awe at Barry who always gave them gentle instruction, quiet reassurance, and endless fascinating subjects to talk about. Barry also taught them that there’s no need to fill the silence; that they were enough. I’m sorry we never got to tell Barry that thanks to his influence, James is pursing his love of fishing at college and plans to study marine and freshwater biology. He was a graceful man, we loved him dearly, and will miss him always. Lots of love to you all, Rachael, Jon, James, Katherine & Thomas

Anne and family...sorry to hear about Barry's passing.  Prayers during this difficult time!  

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Anne.  I remember fondly a weekend fishing trip to Sayner with Barry and John Ray and, of course, that great family visit here in San Francisco.  He was quiet and when he talked he always said something worth hearing.

We all will miss his strength and quiet humor.
