

Bennett A. "Chief" Noel, 93, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 6, 1932 to the late Oscar S. and Mary K. (Hixson) Noel, in the family farmhouse in rural Garrett. Bennett graduated from Garrett High School in 1950, where he met the love of his life Patricia Owens. They were married on August 29, 1952 in Auburn, Indiana. Bennett joined the Indiana Air Guard in 1950. He worked at the base at Baer Field in supply and logistics, retiring in 1987 as a Chief Master Sergeant. He received many awards throughout his career. One of the most prestigious was the Sagamore of the Wabash. Bennett was a dedicated member of Waynedale United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #241, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Eagles in Garrett. Throughout his life, he and his wife enjoyed their many vacations to Leland and Traverse City, Michigan. But far more important to him was family, as he enjoyed attending the many activities for his grandkids. Bennett is survived by his son, Mike (Lois) Noel of Kimmell, Indiana; daughter, Jan (Don) Miller of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Noel; and grandson, Josh Noel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46819. Memorial contributions may be made to Waynedale United Methodist Church or Stillwater Hospice.
