

Bernard Godehn Holm, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2025, in Orange Park, Florida, after a courageous battle with pneumonia. Born on June 4, 1938, in Moline, Illinois, to Carl B. and Ester Holm, Bernard was a man of integrity, intellect, and deep devotion to his family and community.
A proud graduate of Moline High School’s Class of 1952, Bernard pursued his passion for engineering at Valparaiso Technical Institute, where he earned his degree in electrical engineering. Never one to stop learning, he later obtained a master's degree in business from Indiana University. His expertise led him to a distinguished career in engineering, where he played an instrumental role at Magnavox, Raytheon, and Carlisle. His work in these industries contributed to advancements in technology and innovation, a testament to his sharp mind and dedication.
Bernard also served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, demonstrating his lifelong sense of duty and service.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bernard was an active and passionate member of his community. His love for amateur radio made him a key figure in the Fort Wayne Amateur Radio Club and AC/Arts, where he mentored fellow enthusiasts and helped foster a thriving community of radio operators. He was also a dedicated Master Gardener for over 20 years, finding joy in nurturing plants and sharing his knowledge with others. His contributions extended to judging flower shows for the Fort Wayne Community Schools, where he inspired appreciation for nature and beauty.
Bernard’s interests were as diverse as they were deep. He was an active member of the Boston Terrier Club and the Scandinavian Club, embracing both his love for animals and his cultural heritage. No matter where life took him, he found ways to connect with others, always giving his time, knowledge, and kindness.
Above all, Bernard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Virginia Sue Holm, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughter, Christine L. (Holm) Settecase , and her husband Christopher Settecase, along with their daughters, Julie Settecase and Katie (Settecase) Wilson and her husband Kaleb Wilson, all of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his son, Timothy A. Holm, and his wife, Dyesebel (Gigi) Holm, and their children, Ethan Holm and Alyson Holm, of Orange Park, Florida.
Bernard’s warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched the lives of many. He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and community involvement but also for the quiet moments of kindness, the lessons he shared, and the unwavering support he offered to those he loved.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his honor, supporting a cause that was meaningful to him.
Bernard’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A visitation for Bernard will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
