Betty Ann Chambers a name that will go down in history as one of the most extraordinary women who ever graced our path was born on September 13, 1934 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 3, 2026.
Betty accepted the Lord in her life at an early age and became a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Annapolis Maryland, where she was baptized.
As young adult, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she continued her faith and united with Gomez Temple A.M.E Church. There she served diligently as an usher, a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and a devoted Sunday School student. Betty also supported the youth ministry and Feed My Sheep program.
Betty Ann exemplified what it means to be a true steward of the church. Under the leadership of the founding pastor Rev. Naomi Phillips, and every pastor thereafter, she served faithfully with a heart of dedication and humility. We praise God for the spirit of stewardship she so beautifully displayed in her lifetime.
Betty enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a traveler who rarely had time to unpack her bags, journeying in and out of the country. She enjoyed her trips to the Poconos and visits to the casino. Yet secretly, we believed her greatest joy came from caring for others, especially babysitting for her family, extended family, and neighbors. It has often been said that everybody needs and “Aunt Betty” in their life to watch their children. She was loving, firm, never a pushover, and always commanded respect. The number of children she cared for is beyond counting—from the original nine Harris children to their children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. Her impact spans generations
To God be the glory for the patience and love of this powerful woman of God.
Betty worked for over 30 years at ITT Aerospace, where she held various positions and retired as an inspector. She was also a proud graduate of Bates High School in Annapolis, Maryland.
Betty had many talents. She could have taught classes in hairdressing with her signature bone-straight silk press, long before it became popular. She will also be remembered for her incredible cooking skills. If you never tasted Aunt Betty’s spaghetti or her crab cakes, they were simply unmatched. Even at the age of 91, she carried herself with elegance, fashion and undeniable style.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine (Clarence) Mauldin, her father, Abraham Chambers; brother Ralph Chambers; her sister, Gazella (James) Booth, and two special cousins who were like siblings, Josephine Harris and Edward Harris.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Marvina (Marshall) Van Dunk; a special daughter, Krystal Harris; a special niece, Dourine Cook; a special cousin, Marion Wenn; special cousins who were like siblings; Lawrence E. Harris, Allen B. Harris, Terence J. Harris, Cynthia A. Harris, Paulette Madison, Rae Sharon Davis (Bruford), Janice M. Ridley; special nieces and nephews, Lavette (Reggie) Parker, Lynette (Tracy) Stewart, LaTonya Harris, Carl Parker, Shaton Harris, Terence Bowen along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
To God be the glory for a life well lived.
