

Betty B. McCombs, 86, of Fort Wayne, IN, died Tuesday in her home. Born in New London, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Margaret and Richard Brown. She married Jim McCombs on April 12, 1952 in New London, Ohio. Betty graduated from Flora Stone Mather College for Women, Western Reserve University in 1948 with a B.S. Degree in Foods and Nutrition. She then completed a Dietetic Internship in Food Administration at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. She was a Consultant Dietician in health care facilities until 1983. Betty became a member of Waynedale United Methodist Church on May 25, 1965 and had been active in the church community since. She was a member of the Church Growth Committee, volunteered at the food bank, helped with parenting classes, supported the nursery school, and was an active member to the United Methodist Women’s Society. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others above all else. She loved watching sports, particularly college, following the teams of Iowa, Purdue, and Ohio State. Betty was an avid follower of the stock market, and enjoyed puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars, reading books, and going out to eat – especially lunch! She never missed an opportunity to follow her grandchildren, and especially adored attending their sporting events. She loved her great grand dogs as well! Preceding her in death were her husband, Jim McCombs, and two sons, Andrew McCombs and William McCombs. Surviving are her sister, Marion Holroyd of Atascadero, CA; daughters, Mary Beth (Lee) Larkins of Fishers, Lois (Doug) Rehrer of Fort Wayne; daughter-in-law, Anita McCombs; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Nichole Rehrer, Brittany Rehrer, Amie and Sara Larkins, and Kevin and Joey McCombs; four nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Waynedale United Methodist Church with one hour of visitation prior. Calling also from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Ft. Wayne. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Fort Wayne Center for Learning or Waynedale United Methodist Church.
